I'd make sure it was SLS printed in steel for function. Plastic is OK as a prop for a movie or TV program, but SLS steel really works...and you can make some amazing stuff now.

The purists who might cry about this are missing the point. This isn't the death of craftsmanship; it's the evolution of it. The required skill hasn't vanished; it has just shifted from the physical to the digital. The expertise is no longer in the repetitive manual labor of assembling thousands of rings. It's now in the complex 3D modeling, the material science, and the precise calibration of the machine. The craft has moved from the forge to the computer.

Awesome, I’ll print some for my next track meet

Yo can someone please make chainmail ramen?

Useless items meant to imitate useful items piss me off in a way that's difficult to explain.

I only would cry because it is plastic. The fact that it is 3D-printed is nice, and would be awesome if done with real iron.

Yeah, but it's made out of plastic.

Hand making maile is a life's work sort of thing, it is agonizing. And when you start talking about wedge riveted, amazingly time consuming. If the produced product will keep a dagger out of your heart, I don't think the person wearing it will care how it was made.

I remember watching a documentary about how @WetaWorkshop made the Lord of the Rings films and there was this guy that handmade chainmail for years. I wonder what he thinks of this. 🤨

An incredible breakthrough for LARP’ers around the world.

Okay, now I'm not gonna lie, once I mastered the software, I might print a chainmail t-shirt. I mean, who wouldn't.

Imagine returning from your travels and presenting this 3D printing technology to a medieval king as a souvenir. 😅

The armourer's guild is about to lose a big portion of their b2c market. They'll have to start pushing their customers to upgrade to enterprise-level products like full plate armour.

Well, make a video about how it was done. Is it actually metal or plastic and if it’s metal how did you 3-D print metal that’s freaking cool

Peter Jackson wishes he had this.

That’s ramen

“Sir, I’ve Richard II of England on line 1”

You made ramen noodles

what was the material which used to print?

That's amazingly next level printing. 😯

I see a Renaissance fair in my future

But.. It isn’t made of metal..

It's cool, and I’d definitely use it—but not in historic settings. I really value the craftsmanship of real artisans and the authenticity behind historical pieces. For modern use though, it’s a great idea. Nice work!

Print it with a steel powder machine!

I don’t think that’ll protect you from a sword though

It's a lot more fun to do it by hand. It is the only form of "Mail" knitting that is generally accepted by the Males Mail Knitting Club 🤣

That is so cool.

Dude is this metal or plastic? Pls clarify. I was like 'so cool' but saw comments saying it's plastic? If it's plastic it's not the same thing right, just an easier way to make a prop.

⛓️ @KNI9HTC0RE

Just like the olden days.

TIL “medieval purist” is a thing

I can make it faster by hand, but not cheaper. Or in as many colors. I'll have to try printing some
