This alien abduction sequence from Prey is burned into my brain and mainly because it’s one of the best uses of licensed music in this format ever

We seriously need more alien invasion games from the point of view of normal people.

Funny, that exact same song was used amazingly in a formative gaming memory from when I was a kid…but on the interactive video detective game, Ripper, by taketwo, staring christopher walken, used for its intro

Never played it but I love this

It was great, used to play all the old puzzle adventures with my family growing up. 7th guest, 11th hour, phantasmagoria, shivers, ripper, ted Murphy under a killing moon, pandora directive. Tons of gems from that era….tho thinking back none of it was age appropriate, I’m pretty sure they were all M for mature and I can’t have been older than 13🤣

@emeriticus Which decade was this? 90s?

@emeriticus Yeah early to mid 90s for all of them, back in sierra’s golden years.

If everything had gone well, we could've had two sequels to this game.

High praise for this game from play, concept and story. It had everything and Art Bell!

Why this is seared into your hippocampus btw

Never played Returnal but I looked up the OST because people mentioned it in the replies and man this is the most incredible Don’t Fear the Reaper inspired thing I’ve ever heard, truly a work of art

And then later in the alien ship the jukebox is still blasting Barracuda. What a nice touch

Prey was so good. Surprisingly mean-spirited and ruthless at points — but this game, Oblivion and Gears Of War made me appreciate my Xbox 360 at a time where I felt the technical leap wasn't that impressive compared to what the original Xbox could do.

Played the demo several times a decade ago and you encounter this scene. Finally got the game last week and made it past the demo content. It's so good. I wonder if the licensed music is why it's basically abandonware.

Pedro this is probably the best tweet you've made in the better part of a decade.

😂

I love NeuroShock, but Prey was just heartachingly unique. Nothing before or since has really come close. So the fact Bethesda Softworks murdered the sequel and forced Arkane to rename NeuroShock to Prey is just more evidence that that company was and is full of petty bastards.

This is one of my favorite games to ever come out. Another fun feat. was coming across the little radios in parts of the game where you hear people calling into Art Bell talking about alien and he's all skeptical about it. Hand down awesome game and the Prey title that came out was no where close to this gem. Two totally different games.

Wait, which Prey is this, what’s the release year? I’m only familiar with the newer “Prey” set on a space station, which I also thoroughly enjoy. But this looks great, I want to check out this one too.

Funny, I actually forgot the song used, but MAN do I remember the rest of it. New viewers to the OG Prey game, go look at the rest of the opening.

"Don't Fear The Reaper" one of my favorite classic rock songs.

Hadn’t thought about that in a while. Thanks for that, seriously.

Core memory unlocked, this game was so damn cool for its time

Bro, this is one of the best games I've ever played. It's rad as fuck. Aliens, spiritual warfare, war, more aliens.

Seriously this whole game is underrated and not talked about enough. The amount of neat features and the level design made this game amazing. They don’t make fps adventures like this anymore.

Returnal's use of this song throughout its length and the way it uses the lyrics to highlight the game's themes is also really good

I remember being freaked out when Art Bell suddenly showed up on the in-game radio. Wild.

This game was so good im mad we didnt get a sequel

Or they scene where they teleport an entire fucking plane into their spaceship.

Loved this part

Great memories, such a grimy good time. Creative level design, fun guns and a mean streak.

Prey is one of my all time favorite games. It's a shame 2 never came out. The remake / reimagining with the same name is GARBAGE. You can't get the game on steam anymore. The only way to play it is on xbox 360 or emulator. Probably has it on gog or something like that.

I only played once through the Game but it is sticking in my Mind, the Ending also blasted me away and left me with a Feel of Emptyness. I am glad that i still have the Big Box, a true Legend of a Game.

It's a travesty we never got Prey 2.

This game was so good. Wish it had a sequel. The reboot was good too, but they are so different that they might as well be different series.

PEAK

I got goosebumps
