Sunday, June 21, 2026 9:31 AM PST / 12:31 PM EDT: A mini heatwave starts Tuesday into Thursday, with temperatures of 100F - 105F and humidity primarily for San Fernando, Simi, and Santa Clarita and Moreno Valleys. This also includes Palmdale, Lancaster, and Barstow. The main 594 DM heat axis will, unfortunately, affect Palm Springs, Coachella Valley, and Imperial. These areas will see temperatures of 115° to 120° during this time, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, which will be the hottest days of this year, and humidity will come in from the southeast, possibly bringing the first real taste of some monsoon moisture into our region. There are also new changes in the last 24 hours of the Baja low axis and embedded early Wednesday morning hints of unstable parameters for Los Angeles to San Diego counties. This includes the high desert communities, something to keep an eye on. Because it’s been so cool along the coastal zones and valleys for the past several months, please make sure to drink plenty of water and wear light clothing. Also, please check on the pets and elderly, as now we are on the first day of summer, and this means that more heat will be in our future. Temperatures in Phoenix will reach 115 to 119° heat by Wednesday and Thursday. This will be the hottest temperature so far this year. If you are traveling on the I-10 or the I-15, please make sure that you are not traveling during peak hours in the sun, as this could cause your automobile to overheat, especially if your radiator is not working properly with its cooling system. This is a real situation that can occur with older cars, and even some newer cars can have issues, as the extreme heat could be very dangerous in the desert communities. Tuesday, July 28, 2026 6:15 AM PDT/ 9:15 AM EDT: This beautifully displayed water vapor satellite shows hurricane Genevieve as a powerful category four storm now starting to be connected with the monsoonal flow as it moves into a westward trajectory with thunderstorms over Phoenix, Arizona this morning. She will bring lots of humidity across Southern California, and high heat will continue. Still, she is not having a direct impact on Southern California or Arizona. Still, she is having a strong peripheral effect, with dangerous rip tides from Pismo Beach to San Diego counties, starting Tuesday at 8 PM through Thursday at 7 PM, and moderate south swells of 5 to 8 feet are projected from Santa Barbara to San Diego coastal zones, so be aware of this if you are going swimming this week. The cause is due to the strong El Niño in tandem with the very warm sea surface temperatures of 86° to 92° currently. These tropical conditions will continue to increase across Arizona, Southern California, and Las Vegas in the next 72 hours. The current positioning of the 594 DM high axis over eastern Kansas and northern Oklahoma will continue move Westward over the course of the week building to possibly a 597 DM to 600 DM over western Utah to Bartsow, California bringing the highest heat of the last three week period to Southern California were many valley and major city communities across Central California and Southern California will be between 107° to 119° in addition to unusually high humidity levels of 55% to 60%. will make the heatwave downright potentially dangerous. PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD CONFIRMS EXTENSIVE MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE IN AREAS FREQUENTED BY CHINESE MARITIME MILITIA The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) fully supports and confirms the report released by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command (WESCOM), exposing the severe damage inflicted upon the marine environment and coral reef in the seabed of Rozul Reef and Escoda Shoal. From 09 August 2023 to 11 September 2023, PCG monitored an average presence of approximately Thirty-three (33) CMM vessels at vicinity Rozul Reef and Fifteen (15) CMM vessels in Escoda Shoal. Maritime patrols carried out during the same period by BRP SINDANGAN (MRRV 4407) and BRP CABRA (MRRV 4409) further validated the presence of these CMMs in these West Philippine Sea features. During the same period the PCG launched missions to conduct extensive underwater surveys of the seabed in both Rozul Reef and Escoda Shoal. The results of these surveys showed that the marine ecosystem in the subject WPS features appeared lifeless, with minimal to no signs of life. Moreover, the surveys conducted in Escoda Shoal revealed visible discoloration of its seabed, strongly indicating that deliberate activities may have been undertaken to modify the natural topography of its underwater terrain. The presence of crushed corals strongly suggests a potential act of dumping, possibly involving the same dead corals that were previously processed and cleaned before being returned to the seabed. The continued swarming for an indiscriminate illegal and destructive fishing activities of the Chinese Maritime Militia in Rozul Reef and Escoda Shoal may have directly caused the degradation and destruction of the marine environment in the WPS features. The PCG emphasizes the importance of protecting and preserving our marine environment, which plays a crucial role in sustaining marine life and supporting local communities.

Excited to announce UtilitySat, the world’s first multi-mission geostationary satellite, that we're launching at the end of this year. This is a first of its kind. And a new product line-- providing on-demand connectivity for disaster relief, bridge capacity, and other missions. We started Astranis to build something new: small communications satellites that provide dedicated broadband capacity for our customers. At the end of this year we’re launching four more of them on a dedicated Falcon 9 rocket, with many more to come after that. That launch of four satellites includes one satellite for Peru, two satellites for in-flight connectivity, and a fourth satellite that had been previously kept under wraps. Until now. Introducing UtilitySat, the Swiss Army Knife of satellites This is a new product— the world’s first multi-mission commercial GEO satellite, capable of conducting multiple fully-operational broadband connectivity missions. And it is just the first of many. We’ll plan to launch many UtilitySats in the years to come. UtilitySat can provide connectivity on standard Ku, Ka, and Q/V bands, and has the flexibility to dial in exact frequencies using Astranis’s proprietary ultra-wideband software-defined radio. It can also relocate dozens of times around the GEO belt over its lifetime. It does this using our unique on-board dual-propulsion architecture, which includes both a chemical monopropellant system and an electric ion thruster. A new mission every year, or every month When we first began development of UtilitySat almost 2 years ago, we had many different missions in mind. UtilitySat can serve as bridge capacity for a customer that is waiting for a dedicated satellite, as an on-orbit spare, or as extra, surge capacity that can be brought in to supplement the broadband service we’re providing to one of our customers. There are acute needs as well — a natural disaster can wipe out terrestrial connectivity over a huge geographic area. One of the top priorities for first responders and during disaster relief is reliable comms on the ground. With multiple UtilitySats on orbit, Astranis can bring in extra capacity on incredibly short notice. Capacity that is compatible with existing, low-cost GEO ground terminals. In initial conversations with customers for UtilitySat, we’ve seen huge demand — these customers often want to lease the entire capacity of the satellite once they learn what UtilitySat can offer. Customers need all the capacity they can get, and new capacity that can be deployed on short notice is a huge deal and a huge departure from traditional GEO satellites. We see a future where customers will be able to call up extra capacity on demand to augment their existing capacity needs, and we’re making that future a reality. US Government applications The first UtilitySat mission will be a commercial one, but we are seeing enormous demand from both from commercial companies and from our government customers. The US Government has unique needs — Combatant Commanders need to be able to task dedicated satellites to specific AORs at a moment’s notice — and surge communications would give them a new tool in their toolbox, helping them win even in a contested environment. And more broadly speaking our military leaders have said the one priority in national security space is to add resiliency to our fleets, using larger numbers of smaller, flexible, and maneuverable satellites so we’re not dependent on just a handful of huge satellites in GEO. UtilitySat shows that Astranis can do just that. Not traditional GEO satellites UtilitySat is only possible because of Astranis’s unique technology — including our proprietary software–defined radio. The flexibility of having on-board digital signal processing allows us to build a standardized satellite design, and move a lot of what used to be done in hardware, into software. UtilitySat uses the standard Astranis MicroGEO platform, adding more frequency bands and some new software capabilities to make maximum use of the available spectrum, no matter where the satellite is on orbit. Traditional geostationary satellites are designed to sit in one orbital slot for up to 20 years, with a set of frequency bands that is hardwired in at the factory. Their single mission must be predetermined many years before they are launched. Astranis does not build traditional GEO satellites. From day one we knew there had to be a better way, and we’re doing it.

As the CFM LEAP engine shuts down, you can hear the distinctive “whoosh” sound followed by a gush of air. That is the Reverse Bleed System (RBS) at work. During normal operation, a significant amount of fuel remains unpurged in the system after engine shutdown. This residual fuel, located near or within the hot section, vaporizes due to high temperatures and deposits carbon (coke) on the fuel nozzles. Over time, nozzle coking leads to several operational and maintenance issues, including loss of thrust, reduced engine efficiency due to incomplete combustion, accelerated deterioration of hot-section components (combustor and High-Pressure Turbine), engine start failures, potential engine stalls, and increased unscheduled engine removals. The Reverse Bleed System (RBS) prevents fuel nozzle coking by automatically introducing cool air from the core compartment into the engine core flowpath after shutdown. This effectively lowers the fuel nozzle temperature below the coking threshold. RBS can operate for a maximum of 1 hour, and its effectiveness depends on ambient conditions (especially ambient temperature) and the total duration it runs. The last flight of the day contributes the most to fuel nozzle coke accumulation because of the extended dwell time at the gate. By actively managing post-shutdown thermal conditions, RBS significantly reduces coking-related problems, improves engine reliability, and lowers long-term maintenance costs.
