Dude one day you’re gonna be part of an incredible IMAX production of a big movie and well known in the industry of film making and I’m gonna be like… “yea I knew him when he was a YouTuber”

🥺 appreciate you

They’ll also make more of these quiet IMAX cameras now

hopefully!

Indeed

I love this video so much. 💙

Whatever city you’re in when the Odyssey comes out I’ll fly out and we’ll do a round two or three together.

I’ll be in Los Angeles. And it would be truly wonderful to see you.
You have to love that Nolan didn’t kill an IMAX camera this time and he was proud to confess that. I might have to make the trek into Toronto to watch The Odyssey.

wow even a whisper??? they really IMAX'd the Blimp

yes.....yes.

Nolan is the goat of IMAX

Instead of adding a cover up for the sound, can't they build a new version that doesn't run that loud?

i think it's a physics limitation of the size/speed the film needs to run it. i'm not an engineer but if they had to cover the thing up i imagine it's more complicated than we think.

Definitely haha but it’s curious you know all things considering with so many technologies being minified over time, yet not this aspect of filmmaking

makes sense though film size is film size - the machines have to be a certain size no matter what. i have a medium format stills camera that can shoot imax 65mm and it's fucking massive lol

Bruh, Great stuff. Can you check your whatsapp?

That’s some good news! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

1/ Historically most MOS film cameras had to get blimps made to dampen/muffle the sound. These would be bulky enclosures with holes for the lens and power. The lens hole would be covered by thick optical glass.

Same thing they did a hundred years ago when the talkies came around.

That’s about how long it took IMAX to figure it out too.

It may be new for the IMAX cameras, but with the invention of sound, camera blimps have been a round for many years.

It must have been complicated if it took them this long to figure it out. The story is cool, Hoyte did some test footage to show Nolan how it worked and it blew him away. It was footage of a kid reading Bowie’s Sound & Vision.

Indeed! I'm sure the tech that went into the new blimp is ground breaking, I'm curious if Hoyte will be able to shoulder up the camera with the new blimp attached! Very curious if they'll release the test footage with the recital.

I imagine this will have probably the most extensive behind the scenes campaign of any Nolan release. They’ve been ramping that up since Tenet.

I am excited for new ideas/old solutions being used to solve problems, this will be an exciting time for filmmaking.

They would use the same type of blimp enclosure system for the old technicolor cameras because there was three rolls of film for each primary color and of course that was very loud without sound dampening.
