This Chinese guy made a panel of physical buttons connected to the control unit port in his Tesla. You have buttons for pretty much every major function. This device completely defeats the purpose of minimalism. What do you think?

The "purpose of minimalism" is cost reduction and nothing else.

Are you using a smart phone? You could have said the same about your phone.

@noobient A smartphone isn't a life or death thing. Physical controls are simply superior for certain things. I will eat my words if Lockheed Martin comes out with a fighter jet in the next decade that uses predominantly touch screens and digital controls, and fewer buttons and knobs. 🤷🏻♂️

@noobient Have you heard about voice prompt control?

@TrollingEmu It took you a good day to come up with such a bullshit answer tho, kudos.

@TrollingEmu Be civilized before I block you.

I think many would love this as an option.

He can probably make retrofit gear stalks for those Europeans who complain about stalkless steering wheel, difficult to use turn button before exiting roundabouts.

This is the way. 1970’s driver UX’s beat touchscreens in nearly every way (exceptions: cameras, nav systems, and car system status). Driver executes task in 2/10ths of a second w/o taking eyes off road—vs 10 second stupid menu or conversation-interrupting voice commands.

Absolutely love the buttons, I hate hate and really hate that screen on my model 3.

Why did you buy a Model 3 then?

😂😂😂

Well done. Looks pretty minimal considering the number of things it can control. Just needs a little refinement.

Elon tries to drag us out of the Stone Age, and this guy is kicking and screaming to go back to his cave.

lol

To each their own. Why does it bother you that someone likes their physical buttons?

Don’t like it personally; but for people who need their buttons this will do it

Expression of individualism. A big trend in China nowadays to modify your car from the inside, as outside modifications are extremely limited thanks to strict laws in China. Personal Opinion: Agreed. Completely defeats the purpose of minimalism.

@TeslaChinaRider Yeah. When you buy a Tesla, you know what you get.

If I had a Tesla, I'd absolutely want this! I currently drive a 2014 Mazda 3 with a stick shift, which is basically the exact opposite of the Tesla interior design philosophy. Barring an EV Mazda 3, I want my next car to be a Tesla, but I'd miss the control.

It does add some usability back, especially many new users who are used to "buttons". Until voice command works flawlessly (for everyone), these 3rd party options might have a niche. Wish Tesla provides API and plugin ports.

@ray4tesla i have been driving tesla for 8 years and i must say i need some physical buttons to switch from sport to confort mode or change the suspension level very quick. It has been an annoyance for me since day one. Where can i buy this?

I like it. Teslas obsession with no buttons was a mistake. Its annoying, like their doors

You’re complaining someone made an aftermarket part for Tesla…

Looks nice but the buttons need spacing, otherwise you can accidentally press two buttons at the same time.

if he feels better with it, cool. I don't think that there would be a product that everyone likes. some people are happy with buttons, some are happy without

What's wrong with this mod? It gives people who want the option of pressing buttons for quick access a way to to get things done.

A single convenience bar. Nothing wrong w/ this. You can love Tesla & still want some conveniences. Not everyone has to love minimal everything to love Tesla-not mutually exclusive. This type of thinking needs to be relaxed as Tesla becomes more widely adopted. To each their own.

Yeah, it defeats the purpose of minimalism, but it greatly improves the human/machine interface. But hey, what do you expect from a company who thought a yoke was a good idea.

Probably good for old people who really need to touch physical buttons 👴👴👴

Useful. Buttons have outperformed touch targets.

😂. How much does it cost? Imagine that Tesla just saved you that much money. 😂

Then you spend the saving on add-ons lol

I think tesla should provide this option. Physical buttons can be lifesaver, especially when the touchscreen stops working while driving, which I've heard happen from multiple tesla owners.

He's similar to that woman in the US who tried filling her Tesla with gas at the gas station. $TSLA

It's telling how disconnected from reality Tesla fanboys are that they get so upset over someone adding a functional user interface.

Minimalism is nice, but it's better having physical buttons you can use by muscular memory without looking at the screen and arrive safe than taking eyes off road for deactivating antimoist air conditioning and never arrive

I love the idea of being able to mod YOUR car how YOU like it. I prefer the touchscreen as most of the settings are "set it and forget it! ®"

I would totally buy this! I find that the touchscreen is usually inconvenient and sometimes dangerous for things you want to adjust while actually driving. Even better if the icons were labeled with words (certain people can't quickly recognize symbols but we can read words)

Cool design, actually. Not a bad option for those who prefer more tactile controls.

Amazing. If this kind of thing makes it into the aftermarket, Teslas become 2x more appealing. Glad to see someone solve against the aggressive cost cutting that makes Teslas seem so dollar-store cheap.

To me this looks like everybody was pretty much defending themselves although I'm not a big fan of spraying of the dog but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. 🤷♂️🔥
