The same stupid shit I have heard all my life. No one thinks the universe came from nothing. So from where did it come? I don't know. There are millions of things we don't yet know. Just because some things are still unknown is no reason to assign a magical or supernatural cause

Straw man argument. Most modern models believe the big bang happened in a much larger universe that was already there. If the universe is infinite it didn’t have a beginning and it won’t have an end. If your god didn’t need a creator to exist then neither does the universe.

Sure thing. What REALLY makes sense is the belief that a celestial Jewish baby who is his own father, was born of a virgin mother, died for 3 days and then ascended to heaven to make you live forever, if you symbolically eat his flesh and drink his blood and telepathically say that you accept him into your heart so that he can remove the curse that exists because of a woman who was deceived by a talking serpent and ended up eating from the forbidden magic tree...

We really don't know where existence came from. No one believes the universe was created from or by nothing. As for the question of God, there is no proper, clean, neat evidence for it.

Atheists saying they dont believe "nothing" created the universe.. here's prominent atheists doing just that. Dont worry, id be so embarrassed that id lie about it too, if I was dumb enough to be an atheist.

👉 The point is this: Human beings have the mistaken idea that absolutely everything must have a beginning and an end, which leads us to believe that someone had to create everything that exists — a God. However, science has clearly shown that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it can only change forms. Therefore, the total energy of the universe has always existed and always will. It was never created. This includes every atom that forms you, me, and all things in existence. This makes the idea of ‘creation’ — or a ‘creator God’ — incorrect. The very concept of ‘nothing’ is also wrong, because there has never been nothing. There has always been energy, and there always will be. If we all examined this logically and deeply, we’d understand that many ideas we’ve invented don’t actually have a solid, provable basis — concepts like ‘God’ and ‘nothingness’ included. 🤓

The most idiotic and hilarious part of these things is that these arguments assume that the burden of proof is on the skeptic. The burden of proof is on the entity asserting, NOT the skeptic. Russell’s Teapot.

Oh look, more ignorant theists who don't understand the definition of atheism. Fkn ignorance at its finest, which makes sense coming from people who think animals can talk.

We have a universe, and no evidence that something can come from nothing, so an eternal universe seems more plausible than a universe that began from nothing. The God hypothesis explains nothing; it simply replaces the unknown with magic and mistakes that for an explanation. The scientific consensus is that the Big Bang describes the evolution of the universe from a hot, dense state. It does not, by itself, establish that time or the universe began from nothing.

Both sides make no sense. No one knows. Stop arguing based on beliefs or or a lack of beliefs. You don’t know if there’s a god or gods or no gods so stfu and live your life

@justintan309 Respect agnostics a bit more than atheists. The nothing to everything back to nothing argument is the perfect moral escape for accountability.

If "God" just meant "thing I don't understand who started the universe" than there would be no real issue, but it appears to have the moral sensibilities of a primitive culture and it's followers seem particularly keen on the rules about what you eat and who you fuck...

Atheism and universe origins are two separate topics. Suggesting the universe had a beginning is a hubristic 'begging the question' fallacy. Top scientist Roger Penrose hypothesizes that the big bang is just what occurs when a black hole is formed. So we are within a black hole that is within another part of a larger universe where black holes continually form new universes. The entire universe may be infinite; unending and unbeginning. But sure, your bearded sky daddy did it🙄

I think you should believe in what brings you comfort as long as it does not negatively effect how you treat another. It is for you and you alone.

There's always a creator, weather we like it or not. Our ways of worship might differ but that doesn't cancel the fact that there's a creator.

The Big Bangers gave up on “Nothing” about 45 years ago and traded it for “Quantum Potential” or “Unknown Something”, which then begat Inflation and Banging which over billions of years gets us to today. The Lambda-CDM model is the current widely held model of the Big Bang theory. The math heavily depends on Lambda, which is an “unknown constant” without which the math wouldn’t work. “CDM” stands for Cold Dark Matter, which is also unknown and unproven. Gravity also plays a key part, but we can observe what gravity does, but what it is is unknown. In short, the absolute best model that we have depends on blindly accepting the Unknown Something, the Lambda Plug, the hypothetical Cold Dark Matter, and a force (gravity) that has an observable effect but no one knows what it is. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Heb 11:1 These folks have great faith in unknowns, and hope that there is no God. (But, of course, God is real, and He has made Himself known.)

I've noticed the atheists I've known have one thing in common-deep down they know there is a God and they're actually angry at him for some disappointment in their lives. And it comes out when you discuss God. Why would you get so angry about something that you don't believe in?

Profilbild von Andrew Martin

Nope. Atheists don't use words like that. We don't say "nothing" created it. Atheists are singular in that there is no such thing as God. That's it.

This is why agnostic works for me. Accepting there could be something bigger out there that knowingly or unknowingly may have created the stepping stones for our existence while also accepting that it may not necessarily care about us or what we do.
