Just spoke with the BBC about a growing injustice in our communities. While elderly British residents struggle to get face-to-face help with basic services like council tax, the council does offer in-person drop-ins twice a week - but only for asylum seekers. Once again, British taxpayers come last. It’s time for fairness and common sense. 👇

Today at the NYC Council Committee on Cultural Affairs Hearing, Council Member Rita Joseph just introduced Resolution 987 to officially make July 26th “Haitian Compas Day” in New York City. A beautiful recognition of our culture, our music, and the heartbeat of our community. She highlighted how Haitian food, dance, and especially Compas are woven into the fabric of NYC, from neighborhood spots to Eastern Parkway. She also celebrated Haiti’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 🇭🇹⚽️ This is a huge moment for Haitian culture in the diaspora.

The Communities First Team and I signed a repeal guarantee that once we are elected, we will repeal blanket rezoning at our first official council meeting. Blanket rezoning is not the solution for building housing and does not equal affordable housing. Repealing this policy means that we can ensure that we can build smart and effective by keeping the character of the neighbourhoods in our city. As your Mayor, I will improve the development process by cutting the red tape and providing a solution for building infrastructure that benefits all Calgarians. Your voice matters in this election and I and the Communities First team will listen to you and be transparent on the developments in Calgary.

A generation will remain locked-out of homeownership. Another housing plan for the property funds, corporate landlords and big developers but not for you. We won’t stop fighting for a new direction that makes housing affordable for workers and families.
