As babies grow, one of the most important things you can do as a parent is provide safe and varied opportunities for your baby to use their senses (sight, sound, taste, touch and smell) to explore the world. Through a multitude of experiences, children make new neural connections in the brain. Think of how many textures alone there are to experience: soft, hard, fuzzy, smooth, rough, prickly…the list goes on and on. By exposing your child to a variety of sensory experiences, you are not only helping them to understand the world around them - but helping them to create deep understandings and rich vocabulary. I just love the way this dad playfully allows his son to experience rain for the first time. To feel the raindrops, to experience their wetness, to hear their impact on the pavement.
