People like to crap all over this and ya, the survivability probably isn’t all that high even with wearing this is you get hit by one of those rounds. But that doesn’t take away a dang thing from how ingenious that design is and how crazy it is that he was able to do this. Military needs to write him a blank check and get him his own R&D team ASAP

The reason people don’t wear level5 plus armour that can stop a Ralfus round is because even if a plate stops the round, the plate will move into your body 6inchs, causing your heart to eject its own valves into your lungs causing instant death… along with the difficulty of stoping the pieces of the bullets going thru the bottom of your neck into your brain.

Doesn't matter if the bullet stopped when it makes your plates clap.

The force of a 50 BMG, 750 gr bullet traveling at 2,800 ft/s carries about 17,700 joules of kinetic energy. Fuck stopping the rd... The absorption of the impact will shatter your spine and turn your internal organs into red jelly.

There's a reason helmet technology doesn't advance that much for ballistic protection. At a certain point, the force kills you all the same. The same is true for plates.

As a project for views it's cool, especially when you have access to all martial and supplies. But how about to focus on some common rounds but in the way to make it flexible, for example first layer that can stop knife, shrapnel and 9mm, but light and cover more body parts. Something like this:

Well, while the design remarkable in itself, stopping the projectile is not nearly enough. The plate needs to dissipate up to 20 kJ of energy (I dunno, it’s like a car dropped onto your chest from 10 feet height) if we are talking about .50BMG. And standard size plate in any realistic application just won’t have enough material to do that. With currently available materials, the plate wouldn’t be anywhere near anything wearable/usable, and I’m not talking about mass exclusively.

You're still dead from the transfer of kinetic energy to your chest. That pressure wave would shatter all your ribs & explode your heart. Personally, I want the projectile if someone is aiming a .50 at me. At least it'll be instant.

You get popped by .50 and it hits that plate your fucking ass is going 10’ lateral before you hit the ground. Regardless, I think its neck breaking jolt would still clap ya.

Like i wouldn't want to use this since the 50 cal could still easily kill me, probably would, from the impact. But you know what, if it stop a single 50 that well, I can feel that much better about having it catch the usual street calibers. It might actually help you have less pain from those if it doesn't deform as much and spreads it better. Also it is useful to have for other purposes like sticking it around the sides and front of your engine or gas tank if you want to fortify your vehicle against these rounds. Seems like a relatively light-weight armor that could drastically add to survivability since you could stuff it in so many places with how thin it is, especially if you add some "softer" more standard kevlar behind it to help it tank repeated hits in the same plate.

It doesn't stop that force, it just transfers it directly into the squishy part that's behind the plate. MBIC you're just going to become the gooey filling between two plates.
