This entire ocean is a 61 KB HTML file. Built with Claude Code + Opus 5.5 in about 30 minutes, according to its creator. It runs in the browser using WebGPU: FFT waves, whitecaps, sun glitter, a physically based sunset sky with clouds, and a free-flying camera. No game... show more

Demo: Code:

Those FFT waves are Jerry Tessendorf's "Simulating Ocean Water" notes. The same trick made the CG sea in Titanic and Waterworld, and now it fits in a 61 KB page.

wild that a Titanic-era trick now fits in 61 KB lol

61 KB for FFT waves, whitecaps and a physically based sky is impressive. I'd be curious about the FFT resolution and frame time on something like a GTX 1080. Tiny bundle size doesn't necessarily mean lightweight rendering.

fair point, bundle size says nothing about frame time. haven’t tested a 1080 yet.

Highly chance that I swam in 61KB HTML this afternoon. And we are all living in a SSR page.

lol we’re all just wet markup with a loading spinner

the headless chrome screenshots + subagents roasting the clouds part is the real story. giving it eyes on its own output changes everything for visual stuff

yep, screenshot feedback loops are absurdly useful for visual work lol

right? it stops guessing what the clouds look like and just goes and looks. half of fixing visual bugs is that

opened it on my laptop and lost a solid ten minutes just flying low over the waves 🌊

flying low over the waves is dangerously good at eating time lol

honestly might just leave it open as my screensaver at this point 🌊

61 KB for FFT waves and a full sunset sky. the hard part used to be the engine. now it's knowing what to ask for.

and knowing when the screenshot is lying lol

This is incredible! 😍

thanks! wild what you can fit in 61 kb lol

An entire ocean in 61 KB, and my cookie banner still weighs more. 😮💨

lol your cookie banner needs some serious optimization work

Yeah, I hit the Claude Code limit last night. Need to ask it to optimize the code. 😅

Does the 61 KB include the WGSL for the FFT wave simulation? That is a small budget for a spectrum-based ocean.

yep, WGSL’s in there too—tiny shader code, big browser APIs lol

seeing waves ripple across endless horizon feels like true digital ocean adventure

the horizon is doing a lot of heavy lifting lol

looks well

The guy who created this prove that is possible to create something really impressive in a browser and I was happy with my results hahaha

wild what you can pull off in a browser now lol

61KB ocean with WebGPU is insane. 30 minutes and it looks that good

the file size is doing some serious heavy lifting lol

61kb for a whole ocean is demoscene energy how much of that is the fft shader vs the model actually reasoning about the physics

mostly the fft shader; the physics reasoning’s doing the heavy lifting though lol

Wow

30分钟降维打击,前端图形学要被重构了

61KB self-contained WebGPU ocean in 30 min is wild. Did the subagent critiques catch the cloud lighting before the final pass?

they caught the cloud lighting early and helped tune it lol

Thats is one of the best I have ever seen

thanks! the tiny file size still feels illegal lol

61 kb and still shows real waves

tiny file, absolutely massive ocean energy lol

nice!

bro i thought my water shader was solid until i saw yours, damn that looks insanely realistic appreciate u dropping the code, curious to see what it cooks up if i mash our shaders together

lol now i wanna see what happens when they collide

a whole ocean in 61KB is genuinely absurd. 30 minutes though?? the subagents roasting the clouds is my favorite part

the cloud review process was more rigorous than mine lol

61KB with no engine is the wild part to me. Feels like the moat keeps shifting from tooling to taste. What was hardest to get right, the waves or the lighting?

lighting, easily. waves were math; sunset took endless screenshot tweaking lol

61KB ocean?? Insane WebGPU magic

wild what fits in 61kb now lol

one of the best oceans ive seen.

thanks! the whitecaps make it feel way bigger than 61 kb lol

nyc stuff.

a whole ocean in 61 KB is crazy

compressed oceanography, basically lol

Looks clean though 💯💯💯

Wow, it's unbelievable

Please don't add a cookie banner that outweighs the ocean.

lol the cookie banner would need its own buoyancy simulation

a whole ocean in 61 KB and a todo app still ships 300 MB of node_modules

node_modules has its own ocean in there lol

Wtf man😳

An entire ocean in 61 KB, and the clouds still needed an art director.

lol, the clouds had strong opinions about the lighting too

61 KB for a whole ocean is wild. WebGPU doing FFT waves and a full sunset sky in one tiny file is the kind of demo that makes the browser feel like a game engine now

wild what you can cram into one html file now lol
