I have a home video from Christmas 1992 (I was 12). After watching it and observing how generally happy everyone in the video was, I believe that time to be the absolute peak of western civilization

The vibe is off because of LED lights of today. They don't produce warm feeling colors. LED lights were not used for lighting back in the 90s/later than.

No "they" didn't. People responded to cheaper prices on Amazon. The internet did this. Unintended consequence of capitalism for sure.

You have to travel now to different countries...some that are lagging behind, but in a good way to get that type of feeling again.
