This game somehow pulled a "So Retro" to a game that came out only a year before this

@chef_of_games And they did it again just three years later. And it rules.

Adventure was calling a 1 year old game retro. If this happened in a 2026 game, it would be calling a 2025 game retro and this is what that would look like.

Was Kirby’s Adventure the first game ever to do a callback/reference to an older game in its series?

Well, it is the 2nd game in the franchise if I'm not mistaken, so I guess so LOL

Kirby has been respecting its past since day TWO and I love it so much

that's not a "So Retro" thats just a "Retro"

So bizarre to hear Green Greens in this pitch lol

this genuinely might be one of the first examples of putting nostalgic references to a video game, in a video game

And ironically the Game Boy came out in 1989 while the NES came out in 1983 in Japan and 1985 in America This is like if a N64 game had a throwback to a GBA game

@chef_of_games

Kirby has been referencing its past since the first time they could and i love it so much, i feel like it has gained the right to be called tradition instead of Nostalgia Bait or whatever

So monochrome

Sakurai sucking his own dih since the good old days

this and the ending twist must've been the coolest shit back in the day

why is the music so unsettling

I never played Kirby's Dream Land until WAY later, so the reference was lost on me.

This entire GAME was just a big flex of the NES's power. Cuz wdym they ported all the stages from the entire previous game, just for one last hurrah before the final boss fight? (Which also was a 3-phase boss, another flex bru this game doesn't stop)

When the Fire Red games added a resume of your past session nodding both the anime and the original GB games

It always confused me why this was black and white instead of green shaded like the real Game Boy. My theory is that it didn't look that great or it's just a very internal joke of how Game Boy games were made.

I wouldn't call it that to be honest. They very likely put this level here to show how much they evolved in such little time. From a short and fun black and white game for an handheld to one of the most colorful and beautiful NES games which is fitting.

yeah he just does that

this isnt so retro its accurate and well done

I think you're all forgetting what so retro means

You say that like it was difficult to do 😆

My dumbass thought this was Kirby's Dream Land and was like "why is Kirby pink?

I think it’s just a coincidental vibe because the original game was actuall black and white

Dude you fuckin suck at Kirby 😭

Then what is a good substitute for new ideas!? And it better not be “just new ideas lol” cause that’s cheating.

why we doing a snow grave route on kirby’s adventure

LITERALLY LMAO I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING WHEN I PLAYED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME
