araki rlly did put out a masterclass on how to make manga with that book like it’s so good i’d even use for writing in general dawg

I need to own it, i wish i did 🥲

I thought I understood shonen/manga, and this just gave me an entirely new perspective on it. What a fantastic video.

he says odas focus is on the characters when like basically every character is stagnant he's making some correct observations but he's coming to the wrong conclusions you can absolutely criticise odas bad fight choreography even if it's not his main focus by including it in his manga he has made it an object of potential criticism

He states that in TikTok, that aspect still isn’t exempt from criticism either. “Basically every character is stagnant” I’m so sure 👍🏽

i genuinely think every fan of art should follow this man diversity in tastes and opinions is beautiful and all but i think it's also important to be this open-minded in art critique

It makes me really sad I'm so illiterate that I can't fully experience works. Me: "I really like this book/manga." Someone: "Cool, what are the messages and themes?" Me: "I... I don't know." I'm even worse than this image:

I mean, at what point are you allowed to focus in on the weaknesses of anything, if their strengths are supposed to excuse their shortcomings?

where in this video does it say that? It’s just calling out the way people debate these manga that just focus on criticizing and judging the plot lmao. Media literary crisis

"I know shonen is supposed to mean little boys but that doesnt mean we have to have the opinions of little children when discussing it"

Someone who genuinely understands 🥹

Main reason why everyone loved Sakamoto Days when it first came out

unfortunately he's explaining this to a bunch of 12 years old

Not to mention that there are literally like 7 stories in all of human history

My only issue with DB is the plot is too predictable and doesn't develop the side characters anymore.

My favorite is when two fandoms are beefing over literally nothing while the creators of the works are drinking buddies who give each other ideas for each others stories.

One piece did take a lot from the Mysterious Cities of Gold, it’s to the point where if you read it you will generally know how a lot of storylines will end in One piece

This was so perfect 😭👌

People don’t have to like stories with shitty plots because they have pretty pictures. Lmao I understand his point but if a show like One Piece takes SIXTY EPISODES to develop an interesting plot, then that’s a problem 🤷🏾♀️ no one is immature for feeling that way.

I wish people treated animangas not as sports teams but rather as actual art

This is really cool but would be so much more interesting if it wasn't about fucking battle shonens 😭

What makes battle shonens not worthy of this analysis?

They are worthy of it , just saying that the best manga are never shonen and this video would be more interesting if it was about something thats not just battle centric

@GarpFanboy The best manga are most definitely Shonen. Popularity/most sold = quality . We need to start realizing popularity is a metric of seeing how good a story is.

@GarpFanboy Yeah dude, totally 👍 you got it

This is how I felt when people said JJK was trash because of the plot but the emotions are shown in each fight

Lmao this guy talkin about sum "Oda focuses more on characterization, storytelling, themes and world building" while the modern OP made its Mcs secondary characters, the story is carried by ass pulled mysteries, Oda forgot about the main message, and has a shallow world building

Lmfao I guess you can just excuse any story’s weakness by saying the author wasn’t “focusing” on it now? Jesus the mental gymnastics people go through to defend things.

This would make sense if Oda was good at writing characters

I agree with him you should read one piece and Dragon ball the anime is fun but the Manga is why anyone thought it should be animated in the first place

Tell that to Kentaro miura

@BonnetBoii

So real especially when you look at something like chainsaw man

I know what you're saying is probably right because I do see flaws within araki's work that typically don't pertain to character. Sometimes it does happen to do with your character but more often than not it isn't or it was used to help someone grow

DAMN. Yeah no he's right. If I could shake his hand I would.

I am a fan of One Piece and this will never be one of the greatest stories of all time. A stagnant, unfinished manga like Hunter x Hunter has a far better claim to such than One Piece ever will. Inserting misery porn in every arc doesn't make something great..

Kuma's whole story has more plot than other mangas by itself. That's could've been it's own show

Agreed, but I'd never say naruto is "battle focused" or "battle mechanics focused" sure he does that well but the character internal strife and what the battle represents is the real focus. Or else we wouldn't have entire chapter focused on build up 😭

Modern fandom is just cult bullshit

You can be critical as much as you want to but that won’t stop people from liking it (solo leveling for example) the fandoms make shit so much more of a bigger deal than just enjoying it, it becomes this kid level contest of “Nuh uh mine is better” it’s so insufferable man.
