My step sister was given 3 months to live with aggressive cancer. She stopped doing chemo and she has been cancer free for several years now. Doctors did not know how she suddenly got rid of cancer after stopping chemo. My point is doctors can be very wrong.

Except, of course, vulnerable patients can currently be coerced into declining antibiotics, chemotherapy, diuretics, food… It is lawful to refuse care “for any reason or no reason at all”. But the resulting death causes avoidable suffering.

What is interesting is that, adults can make a decision to terminate a birth, (I am pro abortion) yet those adults can’t terminate their own life at a time when they are facing end of life. You can take your pet to end their life, yet those people can’t choose to do the same!

I will let my speech, and her story, speak for itself here. This vote today was on whether we continue our work on this or not — not a final vote that would have seen this Bill come into law. I voted for the Bill to proceed for further consideration, like last time, but this was not the majority vote, this time. I’m disappointed that we cannot continue our consideration of this at this time, and then have been able to take a final view, like last time. I’m grateful to every fellow resident who has been in touch to share theirs, and engaged with me and one another with care and consideration on this. After a lot of thought, I’ve made the decision that I’m going to walk away from journalism. This is not a decision I’ve made lightly. It has been coming for some time, and it has been something I’ve been thinking about for months. However, a number of things in recent times have significantly contributed to me reaching this point. I spoke briefly about some of this with these two lovely young lads on the podcast below. We didn’t have a huge amount of time to speak about everything, so I’ve added a little more context here following the recording. I want to start with the situation surrounding Jason Arday. It genuinely left me in a whirlwind of emotions. I was incredibly upset and, honestly, it made me cry. I was left feeling shocked and confused by what had happened. At the same time, I have to admit that I knew something like this was coming. I really did. I’ve written before about my experiences with the media, and about the effect that being targeted or misrepresented can have on you personally. For me, it has gone far beyond simply being upset by something I have read. It has affected me physically and mentally, and in the past it contributed to me self harming. I wrote a long piece about those experiences when discussing misinformation, which you can find at the top of my profile. So while this particular situation came as a shock to many people, I cannot honestly say that I was completely surprised. My experiences over the past year have made me increasingly aware of the direction in which parts of the media, and wider society, are heading. Then there is the situation involving me and Robert Jenrick, the people around him, his wider political circle on the right and his media circle, and the way I have been portrayed by them. In all honesty, I have found the way I have been portrayed deeply upsetting. It has not been an isolated incident or something that happened once. It has been consistent and, in my view, has often felt like an attempt to undermine the work I was doing by challenging and questioning people in positions of influence. The impact of that has been significant. To be completely honest, it has made me ill. What has also been difficult is seeing people accept a portrayal of me which, from my perspective, could not be further from the truth. And unfortunately, this is not something I have experienced only in relation to this particular situation. There have been numerous occasions where I have felt misrepresented by sections of the media. This particular situation has simply gained a significant amount of attention, which is why I have chosen to address it. There are many more reasons behind my decision to leave journalism. There is a lot more I could say, but I don’t want to sit here and list every single reason. Those two situations have, shall we say, been the cherry on top. The reality is that this decision has been developing for months. It has been on my mind since earlier this year, and I have gone backwards and forwards over whether walking away really is the right thing to do. But the wider culture surrounding the media has also made me question whether I want to be part of the industry at all. The media industry, in my experience, has become incredibly divisive. Sadly, I think that reflects wider society too. There is so much fighting, so much division and so much focus on scoring points against one another. I have received support from some people, and I will always be grateful to those who have stood by me and helped me. But, in my experience, that support has often been outweighed by indifference, division and people looking after their own interests. It can sometimes feel as though everyone is fighting everyone else, rather than trying to build each other up. It reminds me of politics itself: constant point scoring, competing interests and a desire to win rather than a desire to understand. 1/2
