While patients wait years for surgery and months to see a specialist, Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer are threatening to cut the number of NHS specialist doctor training jobs. Most people don’t realise this, but doctors can’t just become Consultants, Surgeons or GPs on their own. They have to get a speciality training job first. These jobs are controlled and capped by the Government. So when the Government talks about cutting speciality training jobs, what they are really talking about is cutting the number of future specialist doctors in this country. At a time when the NHS already doesn’t have enough doctors. At a time when waiting lists are in the millions. At a time when patients are waiting months just to see a specialist and years for operations. Cutting the number of specialist training jobs will not fix the NHS. It will make waiting lists longer. It will make it harder to see a doctor. It will make the NHS worse for patients. Threatening to reduce the number of future doctors while patients are already struggling to access care is not just a deliberate workforce policy decision. It is a direct threat to the NHS and to the public who rely on it, coming from a ‘Labour’ Government.

But if you want a simple explanation of how it is transforming the lives of clinicians and patients, I’d urge you to watch this short video from NHS England. NHS trusts across England use the FDP to pull together data from different IT systems. This helps to improve patient care, while cutting the administrative work for NHS staff. Each year, more than two million people in England navigate the difficult journey of cancer diagnosis, testing and treatment. That’s why we’ve introduced the Cancer 360 tool, built on the #FDP, to speed up this process. It cuts down paper work, tracks progress, prevents delays and helps to create personalised treatment plans - so nothing important gets missed. Without this system, #NHS staff are stuck pulling together information from multiple systems, spreadsheets and emails - taking up valuable time that could be spent on patient care. We are incredibly proud of the difference this software is making to the NHS and are incredibly excited about what’s coming next. $PLTR #PLTR

Pleased to see NHS England Board asked publicly about implementing the Supreme Court ruling—only for Duncan Barton’s response to drift past legal accuracy unchallenged. A masterclass in performative listening & delay tactics ▫️NHS England continues to “assess” whether its policies align with the ruling, despite repeated indications from staff and others that they do not. This lack of alignment has been confirmed by the Supreme Court and multiple tribunals ▫️Wes Streeting, NHS England does not need to wait for EHRC guidance to comply with the law. The Supreme Court has already clarified the legal position, and NHS England should update its policies accordingly and provide reassurance to its workforce. This senior NHS employee will know the EHRC have told services they are responsible for ensuring compliance NOW❕but is pretending otherwise to the board, staff and the general public. This disingenuous behaviour degrades trust and respect for the NHS Sex, the 1️⃣ protected characteristic which has been so poorly served by Board Executives across the NHS should finally be considered as equal. We look forward to NHS England inviting us to contribute to the EHRC implementation planning

The NHS Constitution for England states that the obligation of the NHS is to provide treatment and care. Lord Falconer says that constitution would have to be changed if Assisted Suicide was provided in hospitals. Yes, you heard that right. This madman wants the NHS to state that they are no longer obliged to treat and care, and that they also have the option to kill. Which- I’m sorry to say- is far cheaper and cuts waiting lists…. Be afraid.😱

#BBCDebate There are many things we need to do. There are two really important things. We have to keep the budget strong. You need a strong economy to do that. And public spending is going to go up. It will go up, and for the NHS very substantially. The only people on this platform who have ever cut the NHS budget are Labour in Wales, they've cut it four times and that's why their waiting lists are four times longer than they are in England. Not only can you not afford a Labour government, the NHS can't afford it either.
