Cabo Verde manager Bubista spoke about the level of pride he has for his team after an incredible run in this edition of the World Cup: "Well, first of all, good evening. First things first: I feel pride in my players and in what they did. They did it with dignity and courage. And also a word to our opponent, Argentina. I think they showed why they're world champions. I think I can say our team showed how willing they were to play this game, to play this match. I don't think any other team could have scored two goals against Argentina and then taken the match into extra time. I think that shows the character of our team, how skilled our team was throughout most of the match. We knew the quality of our opponent. 📢🗣️William saliba spoke to a reporter after the game. Honestly I don’t understand what the referees and the VAR are doing, if they want us out they should have say it and we stop playing. For all Paraguay 🇵🇾 did in that match no single yellow, they stamp us elbow us but somehow we are the only team show the card. I think FIFA should just come out if they have concluded on the team they want to win or the referee just have a preferred team, because I don’t really understand what happened today.

This broke my heart and I can't stop thinking about it. Iran has all odds stacked against them its crazy. First of all, they are literally being forced to sleep in Tijuana, Mexico every single night after they play. And its not like their games are right over the boarder in San Diego… they are in Seattle… across the US. AND they have to cross the border and go through immigration JUST to come back and compete the next game. And GO BACK and sleep there after a full on game. Their captain said it himself: "This is a disastrous World Cup. They have done everything possible to eliminate us. That's what they want, they want us out." And after last night their defender is on camera breaking down: "I don't know why we have such bad luck. I don't know what our people have done to deserve this. We just wanted to make them happy." These guys are fighting for an entire country while the system fights back. And then you watch Messi on the same stage committing fouls that would 100% be a yellow or red for ANYONE else and they don't give him a thing. Not even a warning. One team can't even sleep in the host country. They remove their goals yet the other is untouchable. Being the underdog doesn't just mean fighting the opponent. It means fighting the referees, FIFA, and the whole system at the same time. Honestly, it makes it that much obvious that the World Cup is rigged

To the small island who once ruled the world… come the men who do. 24 years ago, Nike released this advert. It’s trending on social media again. I watched it this morning and it made me cry. I bumped into a neighbour yesterday who has lived in South Africa for 5 years and we were talking about the upcoming game. She’s heading down to our Clubhouse to watch it… as most of us are. And she was telling me how excited she is for South Africa. She’s originally from America but will be wearing her Green and Gold tonight. We started talking about the heart of rugby in our country. You see, the Bokke don’t just play a sport, they play with everything they have. They play for every single South African. They play to remind us who we are. And they play to show us who we can be. My neighbour said, “There is no other nation that does that. It’s so beautiful.” She ignited a core memory in me. It was 1995. The Rugby World Cup was the first major sporting event to take place in South Africa following the end of apartheid. We were the hosts. It was also the first World Cup in which we were allowed to compete. I was sitting on the floor with my brother and sister watching. My folks were on the couch. There was this intense feeling of trepidation. We needed to win. Our country needed to win. “But how do you remember that? You must have been so young?” My neighbour asked. Because it was the first time we felt like one nation. Undivided. It was the first time our country was standing behind a new president and a new flag - together. Nelson Mandela made us believe that we were the rainbow nation. He gave us hope that as a country, we could become more than what we were before. We could rewrite our history. When that last whistle blew our entire team dropped to their knees crying, the crowd flying the new South African flags higher than high and then Nelson Mandela made his way to the pitch to meet Francois Pienaar. Something was ignited in us all. The spirit and heart of how rugby brings South Africans together. So ja, our team don’t just play a sport. They play with everything they have. They play for every single South African. They play to remind us who we are. And they play to show us who we can be. Win or lose, they play to bring us together.
