When my dad told me the meaning of University, my head opened. He said "University was coined via the words 'Universe in a City'. It brings knowledge, Ideas, and people from all over and puts them together." He said, Any course that was developed and built as a course with a curriculum, be it a week, a month, a year, 2 years, 4 years or 7 years course in the University is not a waste. What you will learn in and outside the classroom will guide you through life. He was correct.

Most of the present lecturers are products of a GPA based system and not are not incentivized to research. So to transition to a research system, we need diversity in our lecturers. State governments should engage foreign lecturers from high R&D countries like China, Netherlands

We need to start making our own electronics in Nigeria and stop our over dependency in China. This university has the same rating as MIT in the US. Semiconductor were actually invented here. The biggest company in Europe (ASML) was students research here. This is what I expect from our universities in Nigeria. They are not doing any meaningful research. Lectures are busy destroying students while the world is moving fast. They welcomed with open arms and i will be more than happy to work with them in the coming months.

This is the faculty from Columbus University standing in solidarity with the students who support the “peaceful” group called Hamas. What part of Hamas is peaceful? I find it interesting that they talk of peace but they support the students calling for the genocide of Israel? That’s peace? If that’s what they are teaching at this university, then there’s a lot of faculty that needs to be fired. I mean… You can’t make this stuff up. This is a state university! Should faculty be taking part in this protest?

It has been an amazing journey for me to accept the role of Pro Chancellor of Albukhary International University. The convocation ceremony today showed me the true essence of what the university is about in uplifting students from unprivileged backgrounds and giving them an opportunity at the very critical point in their lives through higher education. These students with the blessing of the Almighty will go on to become leaders of the future and role models for society. I had the honour of awarding each and every of the 218 graduating students and excited to watch them grow into the future society that we leave behind.

This is Rishi Sunak saying everything about universities that I have dedicated my platform to. Universities are OVERRATED!!! 90-95% of the students studying Microbiology, Biochemistry, Botany etc were rejected by Medicine, Nursing etc and dumped into these departments to study those courses. Students who set out to study LAW suddenly find their names on CRS, Islamic studies etc merit list. The Universities are ripping them off! They graduate from these courses and there’s nowhere they want to apply the knowledge either home or abroad. There are 1.8 million students in Nigerian universities!!! 1.8 students!!! What are they studying? Most of them become self-made WhatsApp business entrepreneurs or eventually go back to learn skills. So, 4years+x of their lives wasted gaining unnecessary knowledge all because the university wants to rip them off and their parents wants them to attend the university by “tipa tipa by fire” so they can brag. We don’t need MORE universities or university graduates, we need more vocational education institutions. We need to stop these universities from churning out empty heads with certificates and start thinking how we can train them with real life skills. Dear Bola Ahmed Tinubu for your attention.

The University as a Joke: My UNIABUJA UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA Experience When the Students’ Union Government of the University of Abuja, led by Comrade Yusuf Tobi Jamiu, invited me for an interactive session with students, I was skeptical. Given the recent decline in the courage and independence of students’ unions across Nigeria, I didn’t expect much. Still, I decided to give it a try. I came straight from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to the University. An advance team already on the ground hinted that something was off; they couldn’t locate the Students’ Union President on time, and the hall reserved for the event looked deserted. Soon after, one of them informed me that the university authorities had cancelled the program. Not long after, Comrade Jamiu himself reached out to say the event would still hold. So, I headed to the university gate. There, I was stopped by campus security, who bluntly told me the management had declared my visit “unacceptable.” They claimed the Students’ Union had no permission to host me on campus. I alighted from the vehicle and sat on a dilapidated chair by the gate, refusing to leave immediately a silent protest. As I sat there, I witnessed a scene that summed up the death of our university system, a female student was barred from entering the campus for “improper dressing.” When I asked if the university bought clothes for its students, the confused security men eventually allowed her in, perhaps to avoid a scene. Moments later, Comrade Jamiu arrived to apologise, visibly helpless. I couldn’t help but wonder whether he had been elected to lead or to kneel, to represent the students or to appease the school authorities. After a brief conversation, I left saddened but not surprised. What I saw at the University of Abuja was not an institution of learning, but a graveyard of courage and ideas. Our universities are dying — not for lack of resources, but for lack of integrity, independence, and freedom. Nigerian universities are dead. What remains is the struggle to resurrect them.

A for Almajiri Education is the foundation of any functioning economy, and Nigerians are some of the most intelligent people in other countries but with most out of school children on planet earth. As a basic human right, it is the responsibility of the whole society to not only advocate for modern curriculums that have practical and realistic value in sustaining the economy of that society in the future, but to hold their leaders accountable when they don’t invest the appropriate resources and relevance into education. This is the reason why Almajiri still exists today in 21st century, while religious education and modern education can be attained together using curriculums that are realistic and set a foundation for the future of the students and their society. Today, I taught my primary 2 students how to make a PPT using iPads. Giving presentations and using smart devices are now common in professional work places and it’s important that start giving my kids those skill sets at a young age. It will build their work ethic, confidence, realistic expectations in life and navigate them to seamlessly fit into any professional environment they find themselves in now and the future. An important teaching approach I use here is to show them less of how to do it, and just throw them into the situation to see how they can find their ways and create solutions. Only when they need help is when we show them how to do it. It makes them used to problem solving, resilience, less likely to be lazy and dependent. They themselves will be strong to initiate tackling an unknown problem and develop confidence and humility in asking for help or knowledge when they need it. Nigeria needs proper budget allocation for education and modern/designed curriculums that are useful to students and the country in the future. Vote for leaders who will enthusiastically execute these policies. If they don’t, impeach them and take any necessary action against them because they are not only destroying your economic future, but your children’s future as well. This is my idea. It is legally wrong to tell final year medical students to pay 7th year school fees for a 6 years course. The management of the college of medicine university of Nigeria Nsukka should do better, you have not only delayed the dreams of these medical students but also put extra financial burden on their parents and now you want them to pay an extra school fee for a delay that isn't their fault? The society we abuse today will eventually take its toll on our children, because they will only learn by our example. Everything we are experiencing in our country today is a reflection of the decay of civility and orderliness. When we choose to conduct both our public and personal lives with bad behaviour and rascality, we normalise bad behaviour, lawlessness, and criminality. I watched a heartbreaking video that showed students in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State running for their lives as they were being shot at during their student election yesterday which left 2 students dead and several injured. The question is: Where did they learn it from? Are they cursed, or are we the political leaders who are cursed? When we have chosen to "fight, snatch it, grab it, and run with it" how can we expect our children to do it rightly and democratically when they have learned from us? This is not just disgraceful, it’s a national indictment. When we, the leaders, have chosen to fight, snatch, grab and run with it, our children have learned similar and rascality is now a normal situation. It is now up to us, the leaders, to learn how to restore civility, order, and core values in our society by ensuring that our character and behaviour reflect the change we seek in our society. We must do better, for our students, for our children, and for our country. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Students from different religions, different aspects are coming to get the education. They're coming for quality education... Kalma and Sucralfate is not a part of the subject, it is a religious book. Do not mix it up. If you want to make it a subject, please put Bhagavad Gita, Bible as a subject... I am really thankful to the school management because they have taken the strict action on this. We have seen the diary and we have raised our voice. I don't know in how many diaries and how many students this has been going..."

Students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala are on a protest. About 400 of them are sitting at campus on 3rd day facing extreme hot weather, against the various systemic complaints against the Vice -Chancellor Mr. Jai Shankar Singh. The Vice Chancellor entered the female students’ hostel unannounced. He has earlier asked female students to take easy subjects! He is known to ask female teachers to come in ‘Hindustani Poshak’ and has repeatedly commented on the dresses of the students. Allegedly he showed complete lack of apathy when a few months earlier, there was an accident which resulted in the loss of lives of a few students. He is said to have commented ‘if you party late at night, what else do you expect.’ He has also commented on the financial status of students asking them why have they enrolled in an expensive college if their parents can’t pay the fee. This was said to a student who is a batch topper and is on scholarship, when there was a slight delay in making the payment of the college fees. What’s shocking is that there is so much administrative pressure on the students who are protesting that they are not being permitted to meet anyone. There are implied threats to students who speak to anyone , in terms of their marks deductions in upcoming exams. Students have appealed to the Visitor of the University- Justice Surya Kant, Hon’ble Judge of the Supreme Court ; and Chancellor Justice Sheel Nagu, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court, to take cognisance of the matter and immediately expel the Vice Chancellor. The questions before us are - - Is closing down the institute a good way to deal with the situation? - Why protect the Vice - Chancellor, when there is clear cut violation of law. - It’s not a one off incident that students are complaining off. Why hand over the top institutes in such hands ? When he was a dean of law at Allahabad University, he was given a notice for entering a female teachers home at odd hours for expediting the last semester exam. - What about the Systemic Issue -Casual Sexism At Law School ? - What about the implementation of POSH? What happens when the complaint is against the top boss ? - What we see is the classic Anatomy of a people’s’ movement - divide the students ; show them fears about their careers ; call the POLICE and then close the university down. - Why does the boss always go scot-free ? - What’s the point of law if the accused are always protected by those in power ? - When was the training of POSH last done at university? If it is mandatory under POSH, then what happens when institutes/organisations don’t follow it ? - Character assassination - the classic ploy to respond to when female students raise any complaint, how long will this be tolerated? - What are we teaching them as students of constitutional law ? If as students of law, they can’t protest for their own rights, how are they expected to fight for the rights of others tomorrow? Remember, great institutions are not judged by the decorum of dress but the strength of character.
