This is a high-based supercell #tornado and not a land spout up in Alberta today given the clear evidence of mesocyclonic occlusion and wrapping inflow north of the tornado

Note the distinctive clear slot at cloud base encasing the dynamic pipe

That's one of the most photogenic tornadoes I've ever seen. 😳

Looks cool, and scary.

Looks like the Stanley Cup to me

The classic annual Alberta hyper-photogenic tornado is back !

The radar presentation looks nothing like that of your average landspout

They are the pictures I took of the same tornado

There was a huge tornado in South Africa today, too!!

Reed's pickup line "Hey babe, mesocyclonic occlusion and wrapping inflow are nothing compared to what you do to my heart" ❤️🤣😂

It developed in a storm environment that was not supportive of supercells. More likely this was a longer-lived, relatively intense landspout that worked its rotation up into the parent cloud over time. Or a hybrid of sorts. Neither is uncommon. NTP will be investigating.
