We had to dig this one out of the northern supercell of a pair, just as this supercell was getting nudged by a trailer! See the big explosion?! On this day, 4 years ago, i was getting ready to intercept the Andover, Kansas #tornado by ground and air. A tornado warning had not yet been issued, and the fire chief was watching this unfold on my FB live stream, and sounded the sirens. Miraculously, there were no lives lost from this tornado #stormchasing #Dominator

25 years ago, today, on May 3, 1999, arguably the strongest #tornado in History tore through communities like Bridge Creek, Moore, and south OKC. Here was our chase of this infamous #tornado as 18 year old freshman at OU. Still to this day, this is the most powerful and structurally textbook tornadic supercell I have ever chased. It was a lesson in tornado / supercell structure and in the dark side these tornadoes leave behind that is the damage and loss of life/property. Hopefully, we never see an event like this ever again

WE ARE IN DANGER!” ⚠️ The inflow of the powerful tornado was pulling the Dominator in to the destructive core flow by the mirrors and hood! This tornado was just west of Gary, Minnesota. On this day, three years ago, I intercepted this insane #tornado by drone and by rental car. This was a bit of a gamble on the forecast, since the moderate risk was to the north of southern Kansas, but I figured we would need the more westerly winds aloft to capitalize on the strong low-level shear. This supercell barely was able to remain surface based near the magic hour, but got over the hump and dropped a tornado quickly. This storm did not have a tornado warning at the time, but the local firefighters were watching the live stream here on Facebook and sounded the tornado sirens - likely saving countless lives. Never stop chasing

This tornado was one of the loudest I have heard next to the Bakersfield, MO tornado from Friday night. This tornado dug a trench in the clay that was two feet deep, and was one of the first tornadoes of the afternoon mode of the outbreak.
