This is a Manchester City positional transfer rondo from their open training session today. Very Pep Guardiola like from Enzo Maresca who it seems is keen not to change too much. Play is continuous 8v3, with the team in possession aiming to complete a set number of passes before...

Morocco 5v5 + 3 Possession & Counter Pressing Game 🇲🇦 Dimensions: 18(W) x 28(L) Yards In possession, the team must build into a clear shape: 3 central players 2 wide players on the flanks The aim is to keep the ball and complete a set number of passes while maintaining that structure to score points. There are also neutral goalkeepers on each end line and one neutral player inside the pitch to support the team in possession. When the ball is lost, the defending team can press anywhere. This encourages players to react immediately, win the ball back quickly, and counter press with intensity. Coaching focus: Structure in possession. Quick reaction after losing the ball. Spain Used This Possession Setup in training yesterday ahead of a huge fixture vs Uruguay in the early hours of Saturday (UK Time) In Variation 1, teams keep possession and look to score with a one touch finish into the mini goals. A direct one touch finish is worth one point, while a one touch finish after a bounce pass off an end line neutral is worth two points. In Variation 2, the team in possession must first get two players onto each flank before they can score. This encourages width, quick circulation, and then fast counter pressing when the ball is lost. Follow us for more like this and join our website for instant access to more content.

⚽️ CHELSEA FC POSITIONAL 4v4v4 Under Xabi Alonso at the weekend. A positional possession practice from Chelsea Football Club, designed to develop one of the most important principles in possession: creating effective angles of support around the ball. 🔵 PRACTICE DETAIL When a team has possession, players adopt a designated positional structure within each zone. Players are positioned on either side of the area, along the end line and with one central player operating inside each zone. This structure challenges players to recognize how their positioning can create passing lines, support the player on the ball and provide opportunities to play through, around or beyond pressure. Out of possession players are free to press anywhere within the practice area. The focus then shifts towards compactness, communication and coordinated collective pressure. 🎯 SCORING Teams score one point by completing the required number of consecutive passes. 🧠 COACHING POINTS 🔹 Create clear angles of support around the ball 🔹 Adjust positioning as the ball moves 🔹 Scan before receiving 🔹 Receive with an open body shape where possible 🔹 Move the ball quickly to exploit available space 🔹 Press collectively and remain compact out of possession 🔹 React immediately when possession changes 💡 COACHING FOCUS The positioning of the players away from the ball has a major influence on the options available to the player in possession. The central player becomes particularly important in helping the team connect different areas, play through pressure and create additional angles around the ball. Like and save this post for more. 🔥 SAVE THIS FOR YOUR NEXT TRAINING SESSION 🔥 This Breakout Rondo combines possession, forward play and competitive 2v2 duels in one fast, intense practice ⚽️ ✅ 4v4 in the rondo ✅ Two players from each team stay outside the area, creating a 4v2 in possession ✅ Complete five passes ✅ Then look to play forward into the 2v2 zone Once the ball enters the 2v2 area, the attackers have one objective… 🎯 ATTACK THE END ZONE AND SCORE If the defenders win possession, they immediately look to connect back into their teammates in the rondo area. This practice is fast, intense and demanding both technically and cognitively. Ajax training this week featured this Combination Passing Practice: Up Back Through Variation Practice Description This technical combination practice is designed to develop passing quality, positional awareness, timing of movement and communication. The outside players will always complete two passes around the outside before transferring the ball through the central area (Adapt as it progresses). As the ball enters the middle, the two central players combine using an up back through pattern. Both central players must continually assess the movement of the ball, adjust their positioning and prepare early to receive. Play is limited to one or two touches to encourage efficient ball circulation. Following the central combination, the player who sets the ball rotates into the outside position. The player who initially passes into the central area moves inside to continue the sequence. Coaching Points • Maintain concentration throughout the practice • Scan regularly and adjust position as the ball travels • Communicate early and clearly • Create appropriate angles and distances of support • Receive with an open body position where possible • Play firm, accurate passes with the correct weight • Set the ball into the path of the supporting player • Time movements to maintain the rhythm of the sequence • Rotate positions quickly and efficiently • Maintain technical quality while working at a high tempo Save this post and follow us for more. 🔴 Take 30 seconds to read and understand this Liverpool positional practice under Andoni Iraola. We’ve seen this practice shared on other pages who try to replicate what we do, but the explanations have been wrong. First of all, this is a 6v5 positional practice, not 6v6 or 5v5. In the first zone, the practice is played as a 5v4 and within an area 16(L) x 28(W) Yards. The players are deliberately positioned to replicate: ▪️ Two centre backs on the end line (They can step in) ▪️ Two inverted wide players ▪️ One central pivot ▪️ Two mini goals representing players between the lines AKA number 10 positions. The top zone is then played as a 1v1. The practice is designed to recreate central overloads when Liverpool have controlled possession in the opposition half, that's why it is setup in that part of the pitch, again deliberately so. The 1v1 represents a potential moment when an opposition centre back steps forward to track a player receiving between the lines, and spaces appear to run into. This creates an important decision for the team in possession. After completing a set number of passes, can they: ⚽ Play into a mini goal (10 positions between lines), for one point? Or… ⚽ Release the attacker with a well timed forward pass beyond for two points if a goal is scored? The attacker must remain onside, angle their run beyond the defender and finish into either target goal. If the pressing team regains possession, their objective is to attack quickly and score in transition into the mini target goals just beyond the halfway line. The purpose of the practice is to develop pictures, connections and decisions when dominating possession high up the pitch. Can we play through the opposition when the space is available, or play beyond them when they step forward? From there, the coaching principles begin: ✅ Play forward when it’s on ✅ Recognize when to play through or beyond ✅ Maintain positional connections ✅ React immediately in transition And so on! That’s session planning, and a real insight into the detail behind the practice. Save this for your next session and follow us for more ⚽ #FootballCoaching #SoccerCoaching #PositionalPlay #LiverpoolFC #AndoniIraola #CoachDevelopment #FootballTactics #SoccerDrills #FootballTraining

🔥 PSG 5v5 TRANSITIONAL POSSESSION PRACTICE A fantastic possession setup designed to develop playing through pressure, fast attacking transitions and immediate counter pressing. ⚽ How It Works • Play takes place in a central 16 by 16 yard zone • The blue team aims to work the ball from one end of the practice to the other to score to score points • If the red team regain possession, they break out quickly • They can dribble through any of the four transition gates 🎯 Key Focus • Maintain good positional structure • Move the ball quickly through the central area • React immediately when possession changes • Secure the first pass into space in transition (if it's on) • Carry the ball forward with speed • Counter press aggressively after losing possession A great example from PSG of building clear attacking and transition principles into a possession practice. 📌 Save this one for your next session.
