We’re increasing the APR and BPR threshold from £1m to £2.5m for individuals or £5m for couples. This protects more family farms and businesses. This means 85% of farming estates that claim this relief will now pay no inheritance tax on their estates.

Farmers are demonstrating in Westminster against the government's plans to change agricultural inheritance tax outlined in last month's budget. The plans will mean that from April 2026 inherited agricultural assets worth more than £1m will be liable to pay a 20% tax rate, which is half the amount applied to other land and property.
