Would like to hear @jackfchambers view on people enduring extremely long commutes, not by choice, but because they can’t get accommodation near work or college. Fatigue is a very real risk. Long commutes are increasingly forced on people because of the housing situation.

In Germany, there is no speed limit, that is because drivers recieve proper and adequit training, and they cannot get on the road until they have a full licence. Checking for blind spots and other driving fundamentals are almost non existant here in Ireland. Improve driving!

This is ridiculous Speed limits are already too low in most cases. Accidents are not caused by the current speed limit it is caused by breaking the speed limit and bad drivers. It should be reduced in dangerous places, schools wtc but these general reductions are wrong.

This gov will always be the gov of knee jerk reactions.

Got to wonder if these speed limits are suggested by people that drive cars. 80km on national have they drove this speed and 60k on regional is ridiculous. Looks more like another indirect tax on people through speeding fines.

Slow drivers are way worse than those going 10% over the limit. And the real danger are the people not keeping in to their own side, not stopping at stop signs, not turning their lights on or not dimming, tailgating etc

It is about taking away any benefits of private transport. It is about making commuters’ journeys hell. We’ll own nothing and we will be happy. Or miserable. Jack is alright.

I would like to think that this date might be a fresh start for #RoadSafety focus in Ireland after the impasse, given it Donna's 7th anniversary bitter sweet vibe, but with less than half gardai in the remit now, enforcement seems as problematic as ever. But any effort to address speed limits is extremely welcomed. I wish @jackfchambers well but still believe his role should be boosted to Cabinet Ministerial position. Speed is of course but one area, all need to be given razor focus now. We need to eradicate these preventable deaths, injuries and bereavements on roads and we can do it!

Sad really.. Speed not an issue in many cases... Vehicles perhaps, dangerous driving in modified cars which is an enormous issue for many. Dreadful road surfaces.. But speeeeeeeed and revenue generation. A cop out

How can Germany do it with no speed limits on the autobahns? This is a knee jerk reaction. Focus on driver education / training & enforcement!
