This is another example of how VAR is useless for anything beyond offside calls. It only adds noise and more inconsistency. This was a clear penalty. Konsa did not touch the ball. Should have been reviewed, but VAR did not intervene.

We’re not hiding behind our performance, we take responsibility for the result. But a serious question: is this a penalty? If not, why not? Was it checked by VAR? If yes, how long did it take to conclude the ball didn’t hit the hand? Because on the broadcast replay, it clearly appears to be handball. So why was the referee not asked to review it on the monitor?

WILD: THE REFS DID NOT CALL THIS A ROUGHING THE PASSER PENALTY… because the quarterback was hit was Tua Tagovailoa. One of the only quarterbacks in the NFL that this penalty is not called for.

So the VAR review said today this was a penalty (which even sitting in the stands we knew it was) and the reason it wasn’t reviewed at the time by VAR is because the referee didn’t request it. Seems odd, had the ball rolled into the net it would’ve been!

Let's not forget about this play in which VAR would have reviewed it and awarded a pk to Argentina. 4 times German ref of the year Hellmut Krug: "Neuer should have been shown a yellow card & a pk should have been awarded.

Technically, this should be a penalty on Matheson if he doesn't touch the puck. My guess is the refs determined that he did and it was a follow through.
