So the VAR review said today this was a penalty (which even sitting in the stands we knew it was) and the reason it wasn’t reviewed at the time by VAR is because the referee didn’t request it. Seems odd, had the ball rolled into the net it would’ve been!

This is a textbook example of why the "ball to hand" rule exists. According to IFAB Law 12, a handball is not an offense if the ball is hit on the hand or arm directly from a teammate’s kick or header at close range. Vitinha smashed the ball into Neves from point-blank range and so, it is classified as “unpreventable contact”, the rule is superseded by proximity. Neves has zero reaction time to move his arm when the ball is coming off a teammate’s foot from two yards away. There’s also the fact that it was a defensive clearance and not an opponent's shot or a goal-bound ball, there is no "unfair advantage" gained. So, this wasn’t a pen, IMO

This is another example of how VAR is useless for anything beyond offside calls. It only adds noise and more inconsistency. This was a clear penalty. Konsa did not touch the ball. Should have been reviewed, but VAR did not intervene.

Not only does it not “definitely” hit the hand. He also said it come from a throw in, let me see the throw in……. Btw it was a foul throw as the Celtic players foot was on the pitch when the ball was released. How can so much go wrong with 4 officials?

Originally i thought by the Letter of the law there is a case for this to stand as it was "accidental" but on further inspection, he clearly moves his hand towards the ball blocking the path of the pass. This is deliberate handball.

Prior to the 3rd Argentina goal, there was a foul on Salah inside the penalty area. The referee didn’t even VAR check this and allowed the Argentina goal. Egypt was DISALLOWED a goal because the referee VAR checked a foul on Argentina. Egypt was ABSOLUTELY ROBBED!!
