Half the people dont even know why this scene is so emotional. When Mohan arrives in India, he doesn't even drink water from kaveri ammas house but the visit to India slowly makes him change and he is broken by situation of remote India. And eventually deciding to stay back.

This was when Bollywood nearly came to Cinematic Brilliance.. the message conveyed in the scene is so deep to realise.. sadly neither industry nor the actors are keen to do these type of experiments with role anymore. Swades was way ahead of its time..!!

Before this scene Mohan never drinks the local water. He always drinks the mineral water he brought with him in caravan. This scene is a metaphor that by drinking water from the kid he accepts all the problems of our motherland.

This scene was obviously well directed & acted. But i always found this particular scene from "Yeh Taara Woh Taara" a tear jerker 😢 A simple act of removing the movie screen... which acted as a Caste divide, moves your heartstrings. SRK tries to teach the elders via kids 😇

When this movie failed, I realised what kind of audience we are and I think that's why Shahrukh Khan resorted to making just stupid stuff post this.

This scene is much deep.. In the movie, It has shown very subtly by the director as Mohan ensures he drink bottled water everywhere he goes due to hygiene reasons.

Guys seriously, a movie made in 2000s telling us we needed a NASA return guy to light a single bulb. This was reinforcing colonial mindset. Is there ever a movie made on why he went to NASA but didn't become the Elon Musk or Sundar Pichai of India.

Even as an early teenager back then, I was disturbed by this scene and subject of this movie. Shahrukh never came close to delivering anything meaningful after this. May be chak de. But swades was ahead of its time.
