Lynn did the same thing last year against Notre Dame. Ran 2 high safety against 2 first round draft picks… against a freshman quarterback in a rainstorm.

The two linebackers were terrible. Ebil was awful. Barely moved. Rojas just moved forward, didn’t follow the ball and got caught inside and couldn’t pursue.

What do you want them to do is to lay cover 1 when you have problems with the run? Cover 2 puts 5 underneath and they have 6 in the box because they put an OLB on the #3 receiver. Either you have 3v3 outside and 7 vs 7 inside or do it the way they did.

Sometimes, coordinators get so caught up in their scheme they don’t recognize they need to change it to match what the offense is doing.

All modern defense are designed to stop the spread. This is the natural result. Expect more in the future.
