After 2 days of early voting, 14,207 people have cast a ballot in New Orleans. That’s 8,535 Black voters, 4,928 white voters, and 744 other voters. The opportunity is still wide open: 133,293 Black voters and 90,475 white voters have not yet voted. Remember — every day of early voting is Election Day. Don’t assume people know, remind them. Zohran Mamdani is winning White voters in New York by a large margin. Cuomo’s only chance at victory is through Black voters. Why the hell are Whites supporting a Jihadist for Mayor? Black voters who show up are the party’s most loyal base — over 80% of Black men and more than 90% of Black women vote Democratic. If you want different outcomes, you have to make different investments. The only place Democrats have flipped Senate seats in the South is Georgia, the third Blackest state in America — where there was a real investment in turning out Black voters. The question isn’t complicated: Why aren’t Democrats investing in the Black vote in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi? Also, primaries are about turning out your bases. The data says that Talarico had the money and time to invest in turning out white and Hispanic voters. To win he will have to do what no other Texas Democrat has been able to do in a general election — invest in Black voters to turnout Black communities.
