What a Day for the people of Ol Kalou! The people of Ol Kalou deserve development, and that is exactly what they are getting this time. While some are busy talking about speed boats and exchanging IDs, we are on the ground delivering projects that will change lives for generations. The Last Mile Electrification Project is now underway at Kambi Minyore village, Ol Kalou Constituency where 96 households will soon be connected to the national grid. Combined with the improved access roads, this investment will open up the area for business, improve education and healthcare, and help farmers move their produce to market with ease. Those who thought these communities would continue surviving on endless promises can now see the work taking place with their own eyes. At Gwa Kiongo Dam, we launched transformative Blue Economy and irrigation programmes that are turning the dam into a source of jobs and income. More than 80 fisherfolk received 15,000 quality fish fingerlings, fish cages, fishing boats, fish feeds, and safety gear to begin commercial fish farming. We also commissioned solar-powered irrigation pumps that will support year-round farming and higher food production. Those dismissing these interventions as politics should explain to our youth why they oppose projects that create jobs and put money into people's pockets. The inspection of the Mirangine Dam Irrigation Project showed the scale of what is coming. Once complete, the project will irrigate 500 acres in two phases, benefit over 1,000 farmers, and support up to three cropping seasons every year. We also distributed 20,000 fish fingerlings as part of the wider plan to expand aquaculture. The people of Ol Kalou and Nyandarua at large can see the difference and have understood that development is no longer a campaign slogan it is happening now, and no amount of noise will stop the transformation reaching our villages. Those who have nothing to offer will always try to discredit development because they cannot compete with results. It is important to elect a leader who can open more doors for our people and ensure every village gets its fair share of development. That is why Ol Kalou needs a leader who knows how to bring development home. Electing Muchina as your Member of Parliament means choosing a leader who will work closely with the Government to attract more roads, electricity, irrigation, water projects, youth empowerment programmes, and investments that improve people's lives. President HICHILEMA Commissions Zambia’s Largest Urea Plant By Ruth Chayinda President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has officially commissioned Zambia’s largest urea fertiliser plant, which will produce 300,000 tonnes of fertiliser annually. The facility, owned by the Wonderful Group of Companies, is now the second-largest urea plant in Africa and forms part of a US$641 million industrial complex. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President HICHILEMA urged investors to prioritise the energy sector, highlighting its critical role in driving economic development. He stated that the establishment of the urea and compound D fertiliser plants positions Zambia to become a fertiliser manufacturing hub in the region. The President added that the new facilities are expected to enhance food security and contribute to stabilising the national currency. President HICHILEMA also directed the Minister of Lands to urgently resolve any outstanding land issues related to the project site.

While it looks colourful, it has to be one of the world's worst invasive species. It was brought to India as an ornamental shrub in the 18th century, but it has now spread like a disease across 13 million hectares of priceless forest land and pastures. The worst part is that this plant releases chemicals that harm the growth of native plant species. It's also toxic, so cows, goats, etc., can't eat it. The problem has become so bad that in the Nilgiris, it's become impossible to get rid of this plant. There's some hope with organizations like Atree and the Shola Trust (both supported by Rainmatter Foundation) working on turning this harmful shrub into furniture and biomass. Perhaps the most iconic transformation of the plant is the Lantana elephant, which you might have seen at the airports. Comm. says the State Government will continue to pay special attention to waste conversion The quest to make good use of the high solid waste generated in Lagos State got another boost on Tuesday as the state expressed readiness to partner with some Sweden organizations on how to turn both solid waste and liquid waste to energy across the metropolis. Speaking during the meeting at Alausa, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab said the state will continue to pay special attention to waste management adding that waste is not a waste but remain one of the best resource every where. He said Waste to energy is a project that the State Government is willing to embark on in order to move the narrative forward in a progressive and productive way. "Our resolve from the beginning of this tenure is that whatever we have to engage in to manage and deploy our solid and liquid waste as a resource is a priority for this government as it will save Lagos but other neighbouring state" he said. The Commissioner stated that the Ministry which is a public facing ministry has resolved to embrace any project that will cut the carbon foot print in the state. He said the state being a coastal state is faces alot of challenges, one of which is the Atlantic Ocean rising at the peak of the rainy season adding that the state is also at the end of numerous tributaries where water is discharged into the lagoon all of which could lead to flooding in the state. He said lagos generates between 13,000 to 14,000 tonnes of waste per day and the state is open to suggestions about possible productive ways to turn it into a Resources and move the state forward. Wahab said lagos as a State is working to decongest the roads and make Lagos a 21st century mega city saying that the cause and effect on the environment is that these moves help to reduce the emissions on the long run. According to him, As a result of current energy crisis in Nigeria, this has caused the spike in the cost of PMS and its multiple effects on the economy. So if the Lagos State Government can go ahead with this project. it will solve half of the problem in the PMS high price in Lagos. "This project is something we have to pursue deliberately and diligently. This is because while the government on its own part is trying to push out CNG at lower cost, conversion of waste to energy will also be an option especially for public transport in Lagos" Wahab said Lagos account for over 50% of the vehicular traffic in the country with the smallest land mass as well as 22million people which is 10% of the country’s population being inhabited in with less than 3,600 square kilometers of land, stressing that the project is not an option but a necessity. He recalled that earlier in the year, the state government had been in consultation with two Dutch companies one which will turn waste to energy and the other which will deal with electronic waste, adding that the state can indeed change the notion that waste is not a waste but a resource. The head of the delegation, representative of the Consul of Sweeden and the Business Promotion Officer, Sweden Embassy Abuja, Ms. Sara Ibru noted that the Lagos Government is known to be very pro - active in all its endeavours and that the Swedish Organizations are willing to collaborate with Lagos State to turn solid and liquid wastes into valuable resources. This is because while the government on its own part is trying to push out CNG at lower cost, conversion of waste to energy will also be an option especially for public transport in Lagos" Wahab said Lagos account for over 50% of the vehicular traffic in the country with the smallest land mass as well as 22million people which is 10% of the country’s population being inhabited in with less than 3,600 square kilometers of land, stressing that the project is not an option but a necessity. He recalled that earlier in the year, the state government had been in consultation with two Dutch companies one which will turn waste to energy and the other which will deal with electronic waste, adding that the state can indeed change the notion that waste is not a waste but a resource. The project will take 22 months and is expected to be commissioned by President Tinubu. Because of Russian shelling, the plant has been cut off from power, disconnected from the electrical grid, and is being supplied with electricity by diesel generators. This is extraordinary. The generators and the plant were not designed for this, have never operated in this mode for long, and we already have information that one generator has failed. It is Russian shelling that prevents repair of the power lines to the plant and the restoration of basic safety. This is a threat to everyone – no terrorist in the world has ever dared to do to a nuclear plant what Russia is doing. And it is right that the world does not stay silent.
