Cubs' Capers!🦊😍This is the very first time this year's cemetery fox cubs were allowed out of the den to play. They really cherished their new-found freedom and played for 3 hours in the deep of the night. Mum Spring and dad Bert were both clearly excited to run free with their offspring. Dad was literally jumping for joy! 🐾 Not long until the munchkins will be allowed to play outside in the spring sunshine for brief moments, under strict parental supervision. Fantastic Foxy Courtship🔥🦊: I am so excited to have captured the courtship between little vixen Spring and her second male admirer. The stunning male is posing in front of her like a proud bodybuilder, showing off his impressive height and built. Even though the young vixen is much smaller, she fearlessly puts the dog fox in his place. He increases his chances of mating with her by listening to her and toning down his amorous advances. In the end she has got him wrapped round her little paw and he gives her the space she wanted whilst watching over her in a protective way. The day after this display Spring’s admirer went into the den and she then joined him within 30 seconds after picking up his scent. I don’t know what happened inside the den and as the foxes say “What happens in the den stays in the den!” But I would be surprised if those two young foxes were not canoodling in some way. #fox #foxes #matingfoxes #matingseason #foxwatch #winterwatch #foxfamily #cemeteryfoxes #foxcourtship

Like Mother, like daughter! 🦊🦊I love this footage of fox mum Spring with her juvenile daughter. Her daughter is copying mum’s alert behaviour – scanning the environment for any danger by listening and watching the expanse of their territory intently. It’s adorable when Spring’s daughter nose bumps her mum and asks her for reassurance. Often the cautious cubs are more likely to succeed as adults because they take their time to learn the ways of an adult fox. This little vixen could become her mum’s helper next year, should Spring mate again. You can see in the background of this clip one of the siblings running past – I believe this to be one of the dominant males at the cusp of dispersal.

Update on the little mange patient🦊🧡: The good news is that she returned and had a good feed last night. Unfortunately the time she visited, some of the resident juveniles were about, so target- feeding medicated chicken was not possible. However, this is progress and I feel it is only a matter of time until I can treat her. I am patient and persistent. Now I just need some luck! 💫 This clip teaches us a lot about fox behaviour: We can see that foxes are fair. They stand up for their territory but if the other fox submits like the little vixen did by ducking down and making cub-like sounds, then she will be left alone. 💞 The footage featuring a malnourished fox with mange right next to a healthy fox who gets fed daily in my garden, also demonstrates the relevance of supplementary feeding foxes. A fox that has their basic needs met will have a strong immune system and will cope with parasites (like the mites that can cause mange) much better than a malnourished fox. 🍗

Today I found the most magical Easter egg! I had a first glimpse of this year's cemetery cubs. I spotted 3 but there may be more. Elf is one proud fox dad! The little ones were completely unaware of my presence. This is good as they must not get too trusting of people. I set up a motion-activated trail camera to monitor them and document their progress. A hungry fox had a squirrel trapped with nowhere to run. It looked like the chase was over. But just as the fox got close enough to attack, it suddenly stopped. The squirrel was pregnant, and instead of going after her, the fox backed away and curled up nearby in the freezing cold. A girl who had been watching couldn’t believe what she had just seen. Feeling sorry for the hungry fox, she offered it a piece of bread. The fox gently took it from her hand and then surprised her even more by following her all the way home. She went inside and brought out some chicken, which the fox quickly ate before disappearing. The next day, it came back. But this time, it had something in its mouth — an old, worn-out soccer ball. The fox dropped the ball near the girl and stood there watching her, almost as if it had brought her a gift. From that day on, the fox became a regular visitor. The girl left food out for it, and over time, the skinny little fox grew healthier and stronger. Then one day, it showed up with another fox. She was covered in scars and looked like she’d had a rough life in the wild. The two were incredibly close, always resting together and gently grooming each other. The girl welcomed them both and continued looking after them. Then one morning, she noticed something moving beneath her backyard deck. Tiny fox pups began popping their heads out one after another. The foxes had chosen her yard as the place where they felt safe enough to raise their babies. So the girl decided to make the backyard even more comfortable for the new family. The Fox dad of the year award goes to Bertie!!!🦊🧡 He has kept a watchful eye over his cubs for many months, provided lots of food and special treats (like an egg that he may have liked to enjoy himself!!) and most importantly has endlessly played with his little rascals. When their boisterous nature got too much he kindly yet firmly put them in their place but he never lost patience with them as they are learning to be independent young adult foxes. Well done, Bertie – YOU are the fox dad of 2026! We hope you will enjoy the trophy in the shape of a tasty drumstick, just for you!!🍗 X

A vixen that I have never seen before has started to visit my garden. She is heavily pregnant, extremely hungry and very tame. Rather than sussing me out from a distance she came up right close to 'ask for help'. I think that somebody has been feeding her but maybe they have gone on holiday or moved away, so this vixen is taking risks she would normally avoid in order to feed herself and soon to be born cubs. It is brave of her to stroll into a territory of a vixen and her Beau who just had cubs. Foxes are very territorial, especially when they have cubs to rear. 👁️Interesting fox fact: This footage shows the vixen’s eyes glowing, which is generated by the so-called “Tapetum Lucidum” in action. The “Tapetum Lucidum” is a tissue behind the retina that reflects light back through the retina, giving animals like foxes excellent night vision. I triggered the reflector as the light on my camera was on.

When the changeover happens, the parents always greatly enjoy to reconnect with each other and their 5 offspring as one happy family unit.🧡 Dad Bert is a very paws-on dad. He is not just providing food but also playing with his kids extensively. 🐾 This playtime makes them stronger and more agile and is teaching them essential life skills. But of course playing with each other also strengthens the social bonds between the family members. Meet Willow, a hard-working fox mum. Once she nursed her cubs, she loves nothing more than taking long snoozes on the garden table that is glowing with warmth from the spring sun. 🦊 She is one of the residents who live in my friend's garden. Willow peacefully coexists with another lactating vixen called Boots and a fox boy called Gordon. Boots has first dibs on food, though. You can help foxes just by letting them rest up in your garden and enjoy some moments of peace. Fresh drinking water is also much appreciated, especially during dry spell we have been having in the UK recently.

What a wonderful fox dad Elf is! This was him last summer playing patiently with his daughters. He taught them well to be confident and street- smart young vixens. All of his daughters are now fox mums themselves and “responsible adults”. However, every time they bump into them when he is inspecting his large territory surrounding the cemetery, they still wiggle their brushes excitedly and squeal with joy just like they did when they were tiny cubs. This is my love letter to a very special fox, beautiful Elf. He has a very serious face and deep, knowing eyes that have seen a lot. I have grown in credibly fond of him since he first came into my life badly injured last December. I think he knows that the food I gave him contained ‘magic potions’ that made him better and is grateful for that. Right now, he is living his best life as partner to his lovely vixen Eliza and a fox dad to five beautiful cubs. I am totally mad about that fox boy. Are you mad about Elfie too? 😍

Isn't he stunning? 🤩 Fox Dad Bertie is on den den watch whilst mum Spring has gone looking for food. Nothing escapes his eagle eyes and helicopter ears and finely tuned nose when he is protecting his young from possible intruders. 👁 I adore the tiny white star on his black chest. He is such a looker. I got the BEST news!! 😁 Ivy returned last night and had her treatment for mange. 🥳 She will feel better within days and will be protected from mange for 3 months. I will continue to monitor her closely and feed her and also deworm her. I hope that she will not just survive but thrive again! 🦊🌿 Thank you for sending all the good vibes, beautiful name suggestions for her as well as generous donations towards mange medication and food for the many foxes under my care.🙏🐾 You are the BEST! 😍 #fox #foxes #wildlife #mange #foxrescue

A few years ago Jessi asked me if I would be interested in being her next co-host for the Bardown Beauties Podcast. People have always asked me how that came to be and this is how. I knew of Jessi when I started working with the Wild, and interacted with her initially when I was a guest on the podcast and then she and Alexis were guests on the show I hosted for the Wild at the time. But, the first summer I spent working for DaBeauty League was where I went from knowing Jessi as a professional and got to know Jessi on an incredibly personal level. This was the stuff we did that summer. We talked about life, we had fun, and she signed herself up to get some of her hair shaved off. This is one of the videos I’ve watched over and over these last few days because this is where it really all started and I’m forever grateful for it.
