"We don't need to do away with the best tool to keep you safe. But what we need is the guardrails that the professional agencies have to include us inculcated in state law. Not just about the license plate readers known as flock, not just about the toll cameras, not just about the red light cameras, not just about the speed cameras in the school zones, not just about the cameras on the school buses, but all of the technology. The new Axon mass surveillance cameras do exactly what Flock mass surveillance cameras did, just wrapped in a "now with more transparency" marketing claim. But transparency doesn't stop the cameras from violating our rights. We will not allow our servants to turn our nation into digital prison. The police just might be parked in your driveway... Ford just patented newly developed camera technology that could turn all of their new cars into rolling police informants. Basically, they submitted a proposal to the US Patent and Trademark Office to equip new cars with cameras and sensors that could detect speeding violations of other drivers… But it wouldn’t stop there. The system could (in theory) then automatically share the data with local police. This Orwellian future is far from reality… But question remains if it would even be possible to prosecute moving violations without the presence of an officer witness.
