This is how OnChainMonkey® is migrating 10,000 PFPs from Ethereum to Bitcoin. ⤹🧵

When I fell in love with the world of web3, I loved the narratives, the stories, the captivating branding. It's what made Ordinals so easy to understand and why people were fine sending $50K to a random guy in a discord server to reserve an inscription. It was beautiful chaos.

But that was just scratching the surface. I thought Bitcoin Ordinals were just the NFTs that we knew, on let’s say ETH or SOL, but on a different chain, the oldest chain. Yes that may be true, but through living and breathing Ordinals for almost a year, the lore runs deep.

It’s why "The Goose” sold for $6.2 Million, and why Squiggles have the prestige they have. While studying economics at university, professors taught supply and demand, but in the real world, understanding feeling and seeing what actually creates that demand is fascinating.

OnChainMonkeys always fascinated me because of the on-chain element of being on ETH combined with being a 10k PFP collection that we all love. I've always wanted one. When I first jumped into Ordinals and was obsessed, we would have the “Ordinals After Dark” spaces.

He spoke about grand ideas he had for OCM on Bitcoin. ◘ Recursive inscriptions ◘ Parent-Child Provenance ◘ Early sequential block 9 sats At the time it sounded like abstract ideas, that may only end as that. Ideas. However, months later, they did. Executed to perfection.

In February of this year, all 10,000 PFPs of OCM Genesis were inscribed on Bitcoin in Inscription 20219. The inscription number, matched the exact year (2021) and month (9) of the original creation of the collection on Ethereum in September 2021.

It was the first time 10,000 images of a collection were written to and secured on Bitcoin. Just like in 2021, the single inscription meant that OCM used the medium of the blockchain, in an extremely efficient manner, requiring less than 20 kilobytes of Bitcoin blockspace.

Now one of my favorite parts about this whole creation process of OCM on Bitcoin, is the use what is called "parent-child provenance," child inscriptions by creating them from a “parent” inscription. Think Elon as the parent and Tesla, X, and the Boring Company as the children.

When OCM inscribed all 10,000 in February, you could not inscribe the many children to form a collection, yet they still did the parent inscription. OCM Genesis was the pioneering collection that first showed how to use Parent-Child Provenance to distribute a 10k collection.

The migration has the full support of the DAO with a 99% vote towards the shift towards Bitcoin. It’s beautiful when there's synergy between the team and their community and together their unwavering faith in the future of Bitcoin. They really haven't even gotten started.

Which is a better chain to host digital artifacts? It all depends. Personally, I am chain agnostic, and just like good brands for being good brands, wherever their origin. Innovative crypto art can exist anywhere. For OCM, it’s clear as day it’s home is Bitcoin.
