NEW: Aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) is catapulting objects into the James River in Virginia to test its plane launching capabilities. The footage was recently released by Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), a ship building company. The Kennedy features an electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) which makes it just the 2nd US aircraft carrier to have this advanced system. The U.S. usually has two aircraft carriers in place when a military intervention is launched. One of the aircraft carriers acts as a backup. That is the normal procedure. I think the military doctrine is changing. Aircraft carriers are vulnerable and I have previously written that if a conflict between the U.S. and Iran starts, the US will have its aircraft carriers at a safe distance. The issue extends beyond just Iran and the U.S.; it is also significantly related to the anticipated conflict between China and Taiwan. In my opinion, the U.S. does not wish to grant China any benefits in light of that conflict. A significant issue for the U.S. is that lacking aircraft carriers in a region at the onset of a conflict results in a loss of combat capability. This includes the ability to conduct sustained high-tempo air operations with numerous daily sorties. Without these carriers, you also miss out on integrated air defense suppression and electronic warfare in contested airspace. If the U.S. conducts strikes on Iran without the involvement of aircraft carriers, it suggests that it is assessing its military strength without these assets. This could be seen as a precursor to a confrontation with China..........
