See Im NOT about to condone none of this. The gatekeeping aint good enough for me. Our hair is sacred and to see this is very disturbing. So we just say fuck the Sistas that have made this their craft? Who have made a living off of making us feel beautiful after we leave their shop/ house? Who were our therapy session? Who we built connections/bonds with? Who told us how to properly CARE for our hair? Why are we taking from our Sistas? A new office isn't a right. It's a privilege, and one we must earn every day. Today is our first day in Meow's new HQ in the heart of Soho. The internet isn't even up yet, so I'm typing this tethered to my phone. I'm proud of the early Meow team that graduated from dark rooms to a space of our own. We could have done this years ago but we waited until we crossed 8 figures in net revenue and until we knew our growth engine actually repeats. The entire team, since day 1, has never complained and has been on board with this ethos. Above all, we're grateful for our customers. None of this is possible without the customer. And we must earn the right to serve our customers every single day.

If this were just a regular employee speaking to their boss, I would call this ass-kissing. But it’s not. Oh the dialogue is good, real good. This part of the podcast started off with Antwan "Ish" Marby (Cohost) leading his argument w/ Dr. Umar about how there really is no Democrats v. Republicans because they both don’t care about Blacks and simply use different tactics to garner our votes—which everyone was in agreement with. He then attempted to use that point to connect with the fact that because of this, he believes the bigger issue at hand in America was class not race. Dr. Umar proceeds to quickly deliver a rebuttal to this belief, by highlighting how other races/ethnicities have been weaponized to stifle & undermine Black progression and how White privilege is still an advantage even in the face of poverty or economic inequality. He reiterates that in America, race trumps everything.

With the rise in far-right voices against migration, how long will it take for what happened in South Africa to happen in America, Canada, the UK, or Europe? It may look impossible, but that is exactly how some of us felt last year in South Africa. The green card, blue, red, or black passport will NOT save us when that day comes!
