Update: Jacob just bailed on his “free” permanent supportive housing in Seattle after only a few weeks and is heading back to his home state, Missouri He was assaulted DESC and saw firsthand the rampant drugs, untreated mental illness, and chaos these facilities have become. Despite his own disabilities, Jacob understands the policy failure better than most: warehousing people under the Housing First model isn’t compassion, it’s harming the vulnerable, the neighborhood, and everyone paying for it. Mayor Katie B. Wilson this isn’t working. Attorney General Nick Brown please investigate these inhumane taxpayer-funded conditions. Real reform is overdue.

Christopher lives Plymouth Housing and has been a volunteer for We Heart Seattle until the CEO banned me from recruiting more residents to come out with us. That’s why, despite all the spending and new capacity, our streets never look cleaner or safer. Homeless drug addicts continue to roam the city, loitering in parks and using fentanyl and meth in plain view. Nicholas confided that the policy at the tiny home villages is remarkably lax: residents are only required to stay there two or three nights a week to avoid eviction. They say she failed to offer solutions to combat the fentanyl epidemic destroying lives on the streets. People living on 33rd Ave NE say their hood is an absolute disaster zone and looks like a scene out of a zombie movie. Addicts are laid out on the road, kids play in a needle infested park, and drug encampments are spreading on to sidewalks. HIDDEN SEATTLE: A few days ago, outreach group We Heart Seattle(We Heart Seattle) found a stolen United Rentals(United Rentals) forklift abandoned in a #Seattle homeless encampment along the East Duwamish Greenbelt. But there was much more. Walking further into the heavily wooded area, we discovered a constellation of tents and structures, even some set up under I-5 which is Washington State Department of Transportation(Washington State DOT) property. We spoke to several people who say they are intentionally trying to live off the grid. This is a choice. Once again, this is not a housing issue. "Housing first" is not working. Yet this entire region is doubling down on this failed policy. There are people who do not want to pay rent, bills, and are taking advantage of the free services here in #KingCounty. FACTS. The King County Regional Homelessness Authority(King County Regional Homelessness Authority) needs to accept this reality. So does the entire state of Washington. Don't just talk to the academics. Talk to the people actually living out here. More and more homeless say they will be moving out into the woods and just want to be left alone. Mayor Katie B. Angry residents claimed it was pitched as affordable housing for veterans and senior citizens. But then it got switched to housing for the chronically homeless and drug addicted individuals. Bottom line, Kenmore is saying "housing first" is a failure and the "low barrier" free for all drug culture will not be tolerated. This could set a precedent for other King County cities facing similar proposals from other housing providers. Numerous people said, "We don't want to become the next Seattle."
