"The president obviously wants a strong economy, obviously wants better trade deals as well," she says. "But this is about fentanyl." She says Canadian officials hoping to avoid the tariffs had "a lot of conversations but not a lot of action" on stopping fentanyl at the border. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has denied claims that Canada is not taking action, saying there was a 97% drop in fentanyl seizures from December to January.
