Half the problem is that record label didn’t give her music any promotion leading up to the album’s release. She did it all on her own. She’s right in that you can’t cookie cutter as a pop star because she’s so much more than that

The audacity to not help promote an album and then be butthurt that it didn't perform to your standards....

It really is. And she's speaking FACTS. She's very talented what a shame that the company is failing her and demanding more when she is giving them her best. Her last two albums were really really good. But that's the thing "you're only as hot as your last hit" Unfortunately

And that’s only what she’s daring to say publicly. So odds are the situation is even worse and labels like to punish artists who speak out

the great impersonator was such a pivotal album in halsey’s artistry and truly showcased how intense of a storyteller she is

She needs to pull a Raye

Wow, we really saw her fall off hard in real time after her break up with G Eazy...bro really did a number on her💀📉

@Foozball10 He disappeared after that collaboration with Halsey, all thanks to her.

Yeah they ruined each other's careers💀

I think because it didn't pop off on TikTok, labels just don't care about artists and their craft at all. That's why I hate TikTok so much regarding music. It gets ruined by challenges and over plays.

@zanelowe is the most thoughtful, empathetic interviewer. His interviews are always the best. He knows when to give space.

Let's support Halsey!!!

This is really sad… I mean not everyone is gonna appreciate the album she had just released, not because it’s bad, but because it’s completely personal. Her record label should be ashamed! She just went through a rough year and they expect her to jump back on top of her game.

I’m just not understanding because there are people who do 10% of that in sales and still get to make albums

Im about to listen to some halsey just cuz of this cuz i hate when artists get held back cuz of the numbers game.

She should make an alias account and release on Spotify and YouTube. Release whatever she wants.

I see a lot of people in the comments section who clearly aren’t an artist in the music industry giving their opinion as if they have a clue what they’re talking about. There’s a huge lack of understanding from the general public about how these things work and what it takes to put out an album/ be a label or indie artist. Sit down and listen.

She's such an amazing artist and fucking labels are a pain in the ass . They are supposed to be a support not hold you back because you didn't meet their expectations

The world is backwards: Managers earn more than stars due to their connections, artists should control their music and creative vision, with management as support, not the other way around.

And they wonder why Frank Ocean did what he did with Blond.

This is why you don’t make a deal with the devil. I pray that Halsey finds Jesus and realizes this demonic entertainment industry isn’t worth your soul.

The strange part is that she just switched record labels. This was her first album with the new label. While I do not like the implications of what she says I do wonder what she negotiated with them then that they now do not want to invest in making another album with her.

She has a unique voice.. I respect her talent.. And yes this is so sad, she's right.. It's not fair..

No it isnt. She could have easily self released with all her “#1 pop star”💰. Why sign another label if you know SO well how the industry works, and knowing you would make this alt album that was not gonnaget numbers. Just to play victim now. Material for the next flop i guess.

Sorry that’s happening to her but why was the background music so loud? 😭

How are we still acting surprised though? It’s a major issue. You go number 10 then anything below that is a failure in their eyes. Everything has to level up or they shelve you. The ADD epidemic in the industry is real. No one believes it cause they think everything comes down to bad contracts like they’re all legal experts who would negotiate the world’s best deal.

The music industry should consider shorter contract terms, especially for young artists under 25. Long-term deals can limit flexibility and growth and well-being. Shorter agreements could empower emerging talents to navigate their careers more freely.

Also considering her entire platform is gone. She was the queen of teen tumblr aesthetics but teens don’t use tumblr anymore

unless you're a new artist labels are useless and even IF you're a new artist in today's world it's BETTER and more beneficial TO and FOR you to grow and reach mainstream, yourself labels are an 80's and 90's concept that need to go. It's a scam

She realized that the pop garbage was soulless and creatively bankrupt AFTER she signed a deal to make more of it.

That's what happens when someone is a "studio artist" and needs auto-tune to get by.

Olympic level victimhood

The music industry is actually a lot simpler than she makes it out to be. She’s not attractive and has a bad lesbian attitude. If you’re not making the boss hard you’re dead. doesn’t matter the numbers, those are easy to manipulate.

Her label didn’t want the great impersonator from her. They wanted club hits🤷♂️ entertaining ain’t cheap & they still supported her. Why can’t she just be grateful? She act’s like she’ll never have another hit, which is far from true.

Is this recent?

I will always love Halsey. She can do no wrong and bless her soul for saying the music industry’s quiet part out loud. It’s run by demons.

It's actually not. She's emotionally unwell and the pop karaoke they want her to do requires she meets a certain standard. She can release whatever crap she wants if she wants, but it will hurt her pop karaoke career.
