This is Scene Editor. Running on Flutter 3.47 stable. Flutter is excellent for building serious 3D desktop apps. Powered entirely by Flutter's built-in graphics stack, Flutter GPU and Impeller. No forks, no platform views, no external rendering contexts. Scene Editor is just a vanilla Flutter application. Build 3D apps... show more

It isn't packaged for download yet. Right now it lives in the repo and you'd have to build it yourself. Proper distribution is coming!

Running on flutter_scene 0.21.0, which I'm publishing this weekend. HUGE release. Pile of new rendering features and optimizations for large scenes.

Hi Brandon, currently the Hummer EV's dashboard is built with Unreal Engine and uses an industry first ray traced light effects on a car dash. Hopefully we can get a full 3D pipeline combined with Flutter's 2D UI strengths.

Hummer EV's infotainment runs on an unspecified Intel part (GM never said which), and nothing in the marketing claims real-time ray tracing. For this use case that would just be a Very Bad Idea. UE4's visual richness comes from baked lightmaps, pre-convolved cubemap reflections, screen-space reflections/AO, and carefully art-directed materials... You can probably achieve the same look with Flutter Scene today.

That's great to hear! So you think the shadows and light paths are just regular 3D effects? That makes sense. You might be able to get the effect as long as the scene is 3D and you have a texture map. Hopefully you can share the full pipeline soon. ThreeJS assets -> Flutter

@imadetheseworks I wonder why there are not many game engines… currently flutter is the best way to bring your game to mobile and desktop and web

Nice work, currently I have no use case in my apps for 3d but maybe I will do something 3d in the next app I'm building

Thanks you for creating all these things, you really are pushing the limits for Flutter 🔥

Damn, that's looks pretty cool! Keep up the good work :) Make a game engine!

Scene is very much a 3D game engine. :) The intention is to be able to scale down to tiny single-model declarative scenes and scale up to huge worlds. But regardless of how advanced the tooling/AOT processing/runtime optimizations become, Scene will always maintain a practical, symbiotic relationship with Flutter's ecosystem. Whether the use case is big or small, it will always remain easy to drop in to new or existing apps on any platform without taking over your whole project or forcing you to change your ways. It is a practical toolkit to help you build and ship 3D experiences in your apps, whatever they are.

You're amazing! When will I reach your level of technical skill?

That's really nice work @algebrandon !

@ASalvadorini This does not work on the web and it is not on the roadmap either.

@ASalvadorini Flutter Scene supports web. is filled with live web demos, too...

@ASalvadorini Flutter Scene does NOT support GPU rendering on the web - or at least I don’t see a mechanism how it could.

@ASalvadorini Yes, it does.

@lukasnevosad Maybe you should politely show him where and how 🙏😇

There's no special setup required. :) Just use Scene normally in your app, build for web, and it uses WebGL2. I wrote most of Scene's web backend two years ago. 100% feature parity with all the other platforms. There is a golden test suite that verifies Scene's functionality against 7 backend variants, including web, for every PR. The example app in the repo has over 40 pages of example content at this point, all of which runs on web. And again, is filled with actual live demos of Flutter Scene running on web.

wow

This is definitely the feature I've been waiting for for years

Hey Brandon to get this working do we need a flag? I thought Flutter GPU was only available on master/main?

No master channel required! I recommend using the Flutter stable channel with the latest version of `flutter_scene` on pub. For desktop & mobile you need to enable Flutter GPU using a flag. Detailed instructions for the setup are here as well as in the flutter_scene readme: The setup is the same regardless of the Flutter channel you're using.

Stable!

Is the 3D view just another Flutter widget?

didn't think flutter could do proper 3d like this, that's legit

when you described live shader editing, i recognized the appeal instantly and i know that immediacy would reshape how i iterate

Flutter devs will build an entire 3D rendering engine in Dart just to avoid opening Unity or learning C++. Can't wait to nest 40 Container widgets along the Z-axis.
