Victor Davis Hanson didn’t waste time getting to the heart of it. He turned his attention to what he called the “greatest cover-up in the history of the U.S. presidency”—and the journalist he believes was instrumental in making it happen: CNN’s Jake Tapper. Hanson began by pointing to the release of Original Sin, the new book co-authored by Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson. The book chronicles the internal Democratic scramble over Joe Biden’s declining mental state and the behind-the-scenes efforts to keep him in the 2024 race long past the point of plausibility. But for Hanson, the timing wasn’t just curious—it was damning. “We all have problems with this,” he said. “And it’s essentially Jake Tapper. It’s a coauthored book, but it’s Jake Tapper.” Tapper, he noted, isn’t just another reporter. “Jake Tapper is a CNN grandee, seven figure salary, kind of an iconic figure in this left wing media outlet.” Which made what came next, in Hanson’s view, all the more disingenuous. For four years, any mention of Biden’s cognitive decline was treated as political heresy. According to Hanson, no one was more aggressive in silencing dissent than Tapper himself. “If anybody questioned the obvious mental decline of Joe Biden, his cognitive difficulties, Jake Tapper… tore them apart,” he recalled. One example stuck out. When Laura Trump commented as early as 2020 that Biden appeared to be in decline, Tapper dismissed her remarks by suggesting she was mocking a childhood stutter—an argument Hanson described as “absolutely ridiculous.”

So Jake Tapper 🦅 has seen my posts calling out his blatant double standard — how he hounded Joe Biden over every breath, blink, and pause but now bends over backward to excuse Trump’s obvious mental and physical decline. Just listen to this. It’s pathetic. Tapper is actually trying to convince people that the rambling, incoherent mess we’re seeing from Trump is “just how he’s always been.” Give me a break. This kind of cowardice is exactly how we ended up here. The media helped sell the idea that Biden — older, yes, but steady and competent — was somehow a bigger danger than a corrupt, lying narcissist who can’t finish a sentence. Never forget who ran cover for it.

This is a perfectly example of media bias. Thanks Jake. In 2018 Jamie Raskin was going on TV and calling for Trump to be removed from office via the 25th amendment. Raskin claimed that Trump was mentally unfit to be President. When Raskin brought his act to the Jake Tapper show, Tapper never freaked out on him or chastised him for diagnosing someone without medical degree. In fact in 2018 Tapper himself did numerous segments on Trump being mentally unfit for office. Tapper regularly asked the opinions of people who had no medical expertise in his efforts to paint Trump as unfit for office. Just two years later Tapper was indignant at that thought of someone without a medical degree daring to claim that Biden was in cognitive decline.

Rather than engage the substance of Miller’s argument, Tapper reached for the oldest cable-news escape hatch: pretend not to understand it. TAPPER: “I don’t even know, honestly, what you’re talking about right now.” Miller didn’t let it slide.
