Even noodles used to come in 6 packs.

i remember this 😨

😭 Inkomazi is now 1.8 instead of 2 litres

this is ridiculously bad

Everytime I see capitalist bull shit like this, I'm pushed even further towards communism.

and that’s so valid , way too many of these corporations keep taking advantage of the everyday man 🙂↔️

And why increase prices but isikali siyehla 🥺 everything it a scam kwa world

that’s the million dollar question

The annoying thing is that you will find that your meat is not really actually meat these days. All of your wors, Vienna, Russians, etc are full of soy rather than actual meat.

yoh please don’t say that hey? you’ll scare me 😭 what are we eating guys 😭

@grok explain how in 2019 the department of health in South africa repealed regulations that now allow processed "meat" products to contain significantly less actual meat and be comprised of artificial fillers.

In 2019, South Africa's Department of Health repealed outdated regulations under the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act (Gov. Notice 656, May 10, 2019), which had governed processed meats since 1990. This removed strict minimum meat content rules (e.g., 66% for some sausages). New regs under the Agricultural Product Standards Act (Oct 4, 2019) shifted oversight to Agriculture, setting lower minima (e.g., polony: 25% total meat content, allowing fillers like soy, starch, up to 40% chicken skin). This aimed to address listeriosis risks but raised concerns over reduced meat quality. Sources: gazettes, News24.

@BALUCIAGA @grok are insects yet used as protein fillers in South Africa?

As of 2025, insects are not widely used as protein fillers in mainstream processed foods in South Africa, based on available regulations and industry reports. The edible insect sector is emerging, mainly for animal feed and niche human products like powders in baked goods, with companies farming species like black soldier flies. Regulations under acts like the Foodstuffs Act allow potential use if safety standards are met, but incorporation into items like sausages remains limited and exploratory. The image is a little blurry, but I found a sale from January 2018 showing that it really was really 410g back then. 🫤🫤

this is craaazy 😳 can’t believe this was happening right in front of our eyes

The UK at least has legislation that states the brand or store to place information alerting consumers about the shrinkage, as well as to advertise the cost per unit of measurement to indicate when something goes up per gram for example.

The whole 400ml cooldrink thing was my deal breaker

this really shocked me. even the 2ltr has gotten smaller 😳

Yeah nah the rest of the stuff shocked me too. And the way the prices keep climbing? Hai. I actually wonder if it’s the same in other countries

@BALUCIAGA the sugar tax was the primary driver behind the reduction in coke bottle size.

@BALUCIAGA Oh okay, then that makes sense with most of the other products that reduced in size, since they also have sugar🤔

I noticed this more than 10 years ago. Twinsaver tissue reduced the number of rolls to 8. When I was a child there were like 10 or even 12, can't remember but I know it was a huge bag. All these brands have reduced the size of everything and also reduced quality of the products.

Started picking this up post covid, even roll ons have become way smaller but their prices increase. Recently noticed that the quality of @Always pads also decreased their normal pads are way to thin and the texture has changed

Some of these were due to sugar taxes increasing and instead of paying higher, companies opted for reducing sizes.

Cremora and Ellis Brown went from 1kg to 800m and are now 750m. Bar soaps were 200m, then 175 and now 150. Prices rising but sizes/packaging keeps decreasing. We’re in the trenches

I really thought I was delusional, when I saw things just getting smaller by size 😭😭💔

it’s depressing

yoh bruh 😭

That's why they keep on having large billions in turnover profits. These fuckers are actually making the world much more harder to live by cause of greed!

What about the scam of "new look but same old taste" The reality is everything tastes different including fruits and vegetables. Nowadays we no longer eat fruits or vegetables those things tastes like flavors

Cremora was 1kg and now it’s 750g

The people who should be assisting us are @CompComSA . If this is legal or not. We also have the National Consumer Commission but they never post relevant things often reactive. We need to get rid of these useless commossions and start over.

But it’s shrinkflation nje. They do that because the input costs have gone up. If they keep it the same size, the retail price is going to skip a few levels. That’s why there 410ml beer because the price of 500ml was going up to fast to keep customers.

Does anyone know what the song in the background is?

hymn for taiwa - moses khumalo

Danko 🙏🏾

Oh wow I also never noticed This is wild

It’s because of sugar tax, or excise tax. It is a strategic move to not pay the government a lot of money for having creating sweet items.

Even the frozen chicken packs. Used to come in 12 pieces, now it comes in 8.

Chibuku used to be 10l now it’s 2l 😭

Perfect choice for a soundtrack. It made me miss long ago, so much 😭

I noticed Magnum recently. I was so disappointed 😭

I did notice

yoh i’m moes asleep

A bar of soap used to be 200g. It's now 175g. Lux has introduced new scented soaps that are 150g for slightly more than the 175g.

This is not new. Most cough syrups are no longer effective as they used to be as what they sell now is overly diluted! Another example of shrinkflation

People are observant hey 😭

I've been noticing I told my husband about the rice and pasta there's something wrong and he said I was going nuts... That's how it started I knew it!!

They also reducing the alcohol volume from 43% to 40%

Even lotto has more numbers , its as if they are trying to test us

Aibo sekwabiza kanjena back at home 😩

🤣

This is actually referred to as shrinkflation according to @talkcentss
