All know it’s the somali construction cartel and they not stopping at all! The development continues, excavation ongoing nearby at junction of Masari /2nd, construction ongoing at Highridge, 2nd , 6th parklands & on riparian land on 1st parklands & that too on top of rivers!

This is just reactionary. Did it have to rain for the county govt to discover that ‘developers encroached and blocked’ drainage, bwana Katibu Mkuu? Prevention is better than cure.

Responding to complaints from residents in Parklands, where a developer routinely closes one side of the road with his cement truck, spilling wet concrete on the road causing damage and completely damaging the road drainage system, we took action by towing the truck to our yard and also we shall ensure compliance by requiring the developer to fix the drainage system.

Today, I visited 1st Avenue Parklands in response to persistent complaints from residents about flooding in the area, Some of the complaints we receive about flooding especially in Parklands stem from some developers who have built directly over the natural river course. By diverting the river into a narrow canal, they have significantly reduced its ability to handle excess rainwater, leading to massive overflows during heavy rains. I witnessed firsthand how rainwater has been flooding homes and spilling over onto roads, making them impassable. It is unfortunate that while some residents place full blame on the government, the root cause of the flooding lies in these constructions that have interfered with natural river flow. As the County Government, we are committed to implementing a permanent solution. This includes restoring natural waterways, improving drainage infrastructure, and taking firm action against non-compliant developments. We must balance urban development with environmental responsibility.

The rains have started, and we urge all motorists driving within Nairobi County to exercise extra caution. We are putting all hawkers on notice, especially those operating within the CBD and irresponsibly dumping waste particularly tea and coffee hawkers. Their careless disposal of garbage is blocking our stormwater drainage systems, which is a major cause of flooding in the city whenever it rains. Developers and all residents are reminded to strictly follow the law and avoid encroaching on drainage channels. All illegal structures constructed on top of or along drainage systems will be removed. We are committed to restoring order in Nairobi. We are also warning those who have encroached along riverbanks and riparian zones move away immediately before you are swept away by the floods. We shall move in and demolish all illegal structures along riparian areas. These zones are not meant for settlement or construction and must be protected. River Lampreys (Lampetra fluviatilis) at Annacotty Weir on the River Mulkear, Co. Limerick, this week. This barrier blocks lamprey migration in the lower reaches of this tributary of the River Shannon. These lampreys are on their upstream spawning migration but cannot get past this barrier. They repeatedly attempt to find a way over the obstacle on suitable nights, but there is no way upstream for them. This struggle continues for months, and eventually, the survivors spawn below the weir the following spring.
