I would’ve used Shadow Gens as an example if they were talking about the actual quality of Sonic stories and not solely the current tone of Sonic, but that isn’t the case

Mfers don't even look at the rating for Sonic games anymore. Frontiers and Shadow Generations were E 10+. In my country, Sonic 2 and 3 also got an age rating of 12

Also, the only reason those games' stories were enjoyed is because their audience was kids who didn't know better. Black Knight is only good if you've never heard of "Mono no Aware" before. I know, because I was one of those kids.
