This is the most coherent explanation on why going “fully EV” makes no sense (for now). Get this man in charge of an energy committee.

Good Lord, we must protect this man.

Based Canadian Logger.

🤦🏼♂️ I've already covered this in my videos. I already did a whole series on the semi and megacharging. He's right that it takes an enormous amount of power/energy but he doesn't seem to know the difference between those two things. Furthermore, he's not taking into account spare capacity in the grid and how that can be stored by batteries for times where the load peaks. What all that adds up to mean is that you don't need a new nuclear power plant or hydro dam, you just need a megapack at each charging site.

Just a second. A hydro dam with 1.1Gwatt capacity can produce 26.4 GWh per day it’s more than double than needed per his calculations, which seem to be very exaggerated as well. This quick math talk is impressive to people that are not familiar with this math, IMO.

So wrong it's laughable. His logging truck uses 2.5MWh of energy, sure, because it's 30% efficient ICE. And the Tesla Semi, being 90%+ efficient, does the job with a 900kWh pack. He has no idea with his dam reference what a MWh and a MW are. The Semi is already working...

He's mixing up gigawatts (power) and gigawatt-hours (energy). Anyone who doesn't understand the difference shouldn't be anywhere near an energy committee. Yet his tacit recognition of the impracticality of heavy duty EV trucks is correct.

I never understood the resistance to hybrids; seems like everyone is a complete purist who sees the issue in black and white.

The dude is confusing power (Megawatts) with energy (Megawatt-hours). 2.5 MW would be 3300 brake horsepower. No logging truck is anywhere near that. But he's kind of correct on the overall energy consumption as 2.5 MWh is give or take 420 brake horsepower during a 8 hours work day.

People rarely understand the difference between power (W) and energy (Wh). This is another example, leading to wrong conclusions.

Brother doesn’t even understand the difference between energy and power 🤡
