Exciting update in drone delivery from Amazon: Prime Air is now expanding its selection to include popular electronics with lithium-ion batteries, like phones, AirTags, and even grilling thermometers. Customers who are in eligible areas for drone delivery in Texas and Arizona can now receive those items from order to doorstep in just 60 minutes or less, thanks to Prime Air’s new MK30 drone. This is a big milestone toward our goal of delivering 500 million packages by drone globally by the end of the decade.

Walmart employees say they were performing a mock delivery with the drone when a pop rang out. The drone then raced back to the facility. 72-year-old Dennis Winn says he shot at the drone with his 9mm after it flew over his property. The Lake County Sheriff's Office says they found a bullet hole in the payload the drone was carrying. Winn will avoid jail time as long as he is not charged with any other crimes within six months.

All this is happening due to Skey Air, a delivery solution provider, which has deployed drones to carry packages from its warehouse to the delivery point. "Earlier the delivery time of items like clothing, was 24 to 36 hours. Ever since they have ventured into delivery of food items, we get them in 1-1.30 hours. Sometimes even in 15 minutes. When we asked the delivery person about this, he said that now the delivery is being done via drones. This grew our excitement and we too wanted to see how drone delivery takes place," says Parminder Purohit, a local resident.

I can confirm that Walmart is now using drones to deliver items directly to front yards here in North Carolina. Currently they are only available with certain Walmart locations and you need to live within 6-8 miles a store that offers drone delivery. The order has to be 2.1 lbs or less. Pretty wild stuff...

Amazon's drones maintain a fixed 10-foot hover height before releasing packages, which then free-fall to the ground. The drone's propellers also disturb the surrounding area on descent. My Take Amazon has invested billions in drone delivery infrastructure and the pitch has always been speed and convenience as genuine improvements over traditional delivery. Dropping packages from 10 feet onto concrete is not a delivery innovation. It's a trebuchet with a Prime logo. The fragile item problem alone eliminates a significant portion of what people actually order, including wine, glassware, electronics, and anything in a glass jar, which covers a substantial chunk of Amazon's catalog. The deeper question is whether this technology is being deployed because it's ready or because Amazon needs to demonstrate progress on the billions already committed to it. Every video like this one becomes a public test of a product that isn't finished, in neighborhoods where the company needs goodwill to maintain operating permissions. The $4.99 fee also doesn't cover the actual cost of drone delivery at current scale, which means Amazon is subsidizing a service that breaks your syrup.
