In January 2025 two Chinese women out shopping in Kobe and inadvertently stopped inside the railroad crossing and were hit by a train. The driver of the train wasn’t able to see them as they were behind a pole. Their families are suing the train company for $900,000 in damages as the signage was unclear. Since 2009 there have been four other incidents at this crossing, including one death.

I heard the crossing keeper closing the gates just now so thought I’d make an effort and walk up the lane a little way to catch the train. Unfortunately it was a down train which is never quite as spectacular as the up train. Never mind, maybe next time 🚂

Am not sure what’s going on here. An engine pulling empty slate wagons going over the crossing. The passenger season is over now so this is probably a ‘photo charter train’ - run specifically for enthusiasts to take photos
