This is the voice actor for Aether from Genshin Impact, basically saying in his own words that unless a project signs the interim agreement they cannot work on the game. Which begs the question why sign up for the game in the first place knowing it was Non-Union?

Why would your agent agree to you voicing Genshin, if you couldn't work on those other projects that supposedly were non-union? See this is what doesn't make any sense.

I look forward to hearing more non-Amrican English accents in the coming years. Nature is healing.

Seems like once they have their actors inside they can strong arm that production into working exclusively with the union once they feel the actors are too big to replace. They also get to shame other actors into joining the union or be blocked from roles the union controls.

He doesn't look happy at all with the fact he can't voice certain characters rn (Aether), but he knows that if he goes against SAG atm, he'll probably be on a very bad situation, considering he'd essentially go against the entire company he belongs

Because apparently, SAG only enforces its rules during strikes to pressure companies into going union. They also encourage union members to audition for non-union projects and then try to convert them to union when they land the role

Which means this is all a power play using AI as a scapegoat. This never was all about AI, yet they don't realize that Hoyo being a Chinese company they aren't allowed to sign with international union companies.

From what I understand, this is basically a way to bring Genshin under the umbrella of SAG. According to their own rules, it wouldn't have been possible. At the time, Genshin wasn't big. However, in the current landscape & with the rise of AI, SAG has the opportunity of scheming.

But thats the thing SAG actors aren't suppose to be working non-union roles. That's rule #1. So technically he would be considered a scab not Jacob.

I feel bad for Zach and any other VAs (Except Toxic ones) who are stuck in this position. They have been voicing these characters for so long and now the Union is causing more problems in their lives? Seriously, why can’t everything just be simple and no one acts greedy for it?

People have been over this. Video game voice acting has been a historically overlooked part of sag-aftra; historically VAs have very commonly worked on non-union video game projects in the past and SA has turned a blind eye to it. No one knew genshin would get this big.

Which goes to show you SAG is a joke of a union cause they don't even follow their own rules. Plus they're AI as scapegoat, this is all a power play to get companies to comply.
