The couple in the video is me and my partner. We filmed because earlier reports said Khamenei was killed, pending confirmation. We wanted to capture a moment we had waited a lifetime for. If you’ve never lived under a dictatorship, you can’t fully understand that feeling.

In 1981 an Iranian family moved to my town after being in PA for a while. They escaped the war. The dad was a nuclear physicist and literally had to escape the new regime. I became friends with the kid in my class. They made great food and told amazing stories of life in Iran.
