It is odd to think people would consider it rude to read the menu for him but if it was someone blind then it would be rude not to help. Assuming there is no braille menu because in that case they might prefer to read on their own anyway

Let's do the same experiment with someone saying "i can't read english"... You may not find that interaction very wholesome.
