This is why any safeguards which make it into the Assisted Death bill will soon become portrayed as 'barriers' to equal right of access. The safeguards will then start to be removed. As has happened in Australia and Canada within a few short years. 'Safeguards become barriers':

@Docstockk You Brits make everything so effing complicated. The constant search for fantastical obstacles, attempts to cover ludicrous possible outcomes, just leads to the quagmire of inertia. Trying to assist the tiny minority of people to die on their own terms in peace has been wrecked.

Today I spoke in favour of a number of amendments to the Assisted Dying Bill. Fundamentally, I do not believe the safeguards in the Bill can protect people from coercion. I remain opposed to the Bill and will vote against at 3rd Reading.

MPs are debating and voting on the final stage of a bill today which could legalise assisted dying in England and Wales. I am against this legislation - as I recently discussed on BBC Debate Night. This bill ignores vital safeguards on an individual case by case basis. How can there be an option of death without creating pressure to choose it? And how can there be such an option of death while still affirming each person’s value and humanity? Instead of assisted dying, the focus should be towards assisted living.
