This is why Tesla FSD streaks are BS & doing them is potentially dangerous. The car comes to a complete stop on a merge lane. I gave it more time than I should have to see what it would do before taking over. Cars coming behind me aren’t expecting...

I could care less about these streaks. I am not going to take a tour of a parking lot while the car looks for an exit that was only 50 ft away to begine with. I am not parking in the boondocks when I have a blue placard. I am not driving around a neighborhood because the car sees a road closed sign where the closure is 1/4 mile past where I need to turn. This is the hard part of the software, the long tail, the .01% left to get right.

@Tesla Pressing the accelerator doesn't lose the streak. I know you know this but FYI for all the others

Profilbild von Michael Rauch

Press accelerator, I take the wheel. You are controlling the accelerator than should be controlling the car steering. If I hit accelerator & vehicle crashes the same folks would say well you should have been steering. People will defend anything on FSD. The reality is the entire streak thing is stupid just like the disengagement pop up screen. Both do nothing for owners.

Profilbild von Vekay

@Tesla Just a tap. No you don't need to take control of the steering. It won't crash.

@Tesla But tapping the accelerator is how it gets better!!

Profilbild von Michael Rauch
Michael Rauchvor 1 Monat

@Tesla There is zero evidence of that having an effect. It’s never improved anything for me & I view it as. Ring dangerous for some people causing unintended acceleration.

Profilbild von Vekay

@Tesla That's how the system learns. When you are home, the data from your car is pulled to the cloud and all information with intervention data is uploaded into the cloud and the model.

Profilbild von Michael Rauch

@Tesla It’s it an intervention or not when you use the accelerator?

@Tesla I’m not a fan of the streak. I gave it a try for a couple weeks but and while it didn’t do anything dangerous it wasted more of my time than anything. Taking longer routes and even going all the way to the top of a parking garage just to go back down.

Profilbild von Michael Rauch
Michael Rauchvor 1 Monat

There’s that as well. The navigation is super wonky going to our grocery store & takes the weirdest route then circle through the parking lot & parks over by other stores way away from the grocery store. 🤦‍♂️ Some places it’s amazing how well it does & others well….its a work in progress & patience (which I only have so much). 🤣😂

@Tesla Yeah the video I recorded yesterday and still need to upload it passes by so many parking spaces for no reason. I’m not sure if it’s logic. And in terms of wasting my time if I let it do what it wants I would spend an extra 2+ days in my car per year.

Profilbild von Michael Rauch

@Tesla My feeling is if driver is using accelerator then they should have hands on wheel controlling steering. Seen too many instances from unintended acceleration from drivers over the years, including Tesla owners sending it through a garage door. 😂🤣

Profilbild von BuffaloDen

@Tesla But you were in the highway and no need to punch it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Profilbild von Michael Rauch
Michael Rauchvor 1 Monat

I’m not saying I’d have punched, but even talking it in my view from a safety standpoint is you are changing a parameter & need to be prepared to handle any needed steering inputs. Also at that point it’s useless to me & I’m better off just driving it myself. I don’t want to waste my time letting it figure it out. Same reason almost all parking decisions I do myself. The logic it uses is so bizarre. Also been noticing its navigation choices are making some routes much longer & not most direct. 🤷‍♂️

@Tesla Different folks are willing to more than I am. My biggest question is what does the “Streak” add that benefits an owner or the car?

Profilbild von BuffaloDen

@Tesla I don’t give a crap about streak, I tap on accelerator when I want it to keep moving and take over in parking lots generally.

@Tesla You can press the accelerator to keep it moving it doesn’t break the streak. I do it all the time. It’s only if you keep it pressed down

Profilbild von Michael Rauch
Michael Rauchvor 1 Monat

@Tesla My point is if I’m using the accelerator then I’m taking over the wheel. Because if I’m controlling the propulsion then I need to be the one to make sure it’s going in proper direction. It’s a safety thing.

Profilbild von Brewski
Brewskivor 1 Monat

@Tesla Then that’s a personal preference to immediately take over !! I would have just tapped the accelerator first to see what happened. If it continued to stay stopped then maybe take over but again your personal preference not mine.

Profilbild von Michael Rauch
Michael Rauchvor 1 Monat

@Tesla And if I hit the accelerator & the car has an incident the same folks would blame me. No thanks. The whole streak thing is just dumb as the disengagement screen that does nothing for owners except to inflate how good FSD is on social media.

Profilbild von Brewski
Brewskivor 1 Monat

If you tap the accelerator In my experience it tells the car it’s ok to proceed and it goes. Like turning right on a red light! Or when it comes to a stop sign and it can go and it’s hesitant then just tap the accelerator is all !! Again that’s your preference to take over immediately!! I’ve got a few merge lanes similar and just press it it’ll stay in lane and merge ! I’m not out to break any streaks I promise you that. I do feel like every drive I’ve had it’s gotten better ! Again my own experience !!

I intervene or disengage whenever it is safer, faster, or more convenient. It is better to send this data to Tesla than to maintain a streak, IMO. It should help them improve FSD, and it is also safer, faster, and more convenient for me as well. 🤷‍♂️ I have a 22 mile streak, my longest ever. 😂

Profilbild von Woodcote

@Tesla FSD is amazing at merging, especially with heavy traffic. I don’t care about streaks, and I break mine parking almost every drive. In my opinion it would have been safer to just quickly tap the accelerator. Not let it come to a stop, creating a dangerous situation.

@Tesla I switch to Mad Max to turn into heavy traffic, then bump back to standard after the merge is made. It seems to cautious in standard.

@Tesla I don't give a F about streaks, but in cases like this or being in the wrong lane - the throttle pedal, and the turn stalk or button, are signals to send without halting FSD - I use my throttle pedal and signals to make it do things, a few times every day it seems like.

I don’t pay the streaks any attention. If something is safer and more efficient I overtake fsd. One time it tried to back me into a supercharger stall that already had a car parked in it. I don’t think it would have hit the other car but it was holding up traffic so I overtook fsd.

@Tesla I've said it before and I'll say it as many times as needed. These self-driving programs will never be good enough to cope with all the random variables you encounter on normal streets. Even if they over 99% accurate, that still leaves about 1% potentially critical errors.

@Tesla Bad example, but good take on the danger of streaking. In this type of situation, a brief nudge with the accelerator solves the problem. You can still put hands on the wheel if you think FSD might all of a sudden forget how to safely steer, but that’s less safe.
