This guy has over 20 million views on videos where he is blatantly abusing FSD. I really think Tesla should ban people who do this. It gives the wrong public perception of what FSD is today and can only do harm overall. Start with a short ban and escalate...

@Tesla This is an issue for local law enforcement to handle

@Tesla I don’t see why Tesla can’t also handout a ban for misusing their software. They’ve done it before

It’s tricky. What deserves a ban vs a timeout? Is the ban per car or per account? Can they sell the car, what happens if they get a different account, multiple drivers etc. What if they die from a crash that could have been prevented if you didn’t ban them? Better to just have local law enforcement charge them with reckless behavior. That has a legal weight that they can’t escape.

@Tesla The Tesla community needs to police itself too (present company excluded). All I read is how autonomy is solved, safety disengagements are a thing of the past, it's ready for unsupervised, and so on. It's damned good, but it can still glitch out on you…even if rare.

@Tesla I agree with you Devin. This behavior reflects negatively on Tesla and the community.

@Tesla This is the setup to go with. Still see the road fine. Less motion sickness. Dude is dialed in 😂

I don’t understand this take, like people pay for this. FSD is in a state where I could trust it while I’m asleep (HW4). The influencers are always talking about how FSD is “solved” and that now 98 year old people can use the vehicle now. People are already personally liable for distracted driving, if a cop sees it they’ll pull you over. Tesla doesn’t and shouldn’t ban you for that. You never see accidents where FSD is fully engaged from start to finish without human acceleration input. This if anything shows how capable of a system FSD is. You either, 1.believe that drivers (who would not legally be able to drive or drive safely because of their age) don’t have to intervene or pay attention. 2. Or it’s not as safe as always claimed to be and it shouldn’t be advertised for those situations either.

@Tesla I think FSD is the best level 2 DAS in North America. It’s incredible and no doubt makes our roads safer - but it is not perfect and it is not ready to be unsupervised. Using it the way this guy does is wrong.

@Tesla No one cares, boomer. No true accidents on HW4 FSD, only parking lot taps

@Tesla Nah, they should just legalize unsupervised FSD on all highways. It’s ready. Both HW3 and HW4.

@Tesla Clips like that end up being what a lot of people think FSD is. A short ban that escalates sounds pretty fair to me.

@Tesla @Tesla_AI absolutely needs to be perma-banning people who do stuff like this.

@Tesla I'm sure they are aware of it but choose not to. Any publicity is good publicity until the video ends up in court after someone gets hurt.

@Tesla How is holding the controller not triggering the “keep hands available for steering” warning? Which is usually followed by the apply slight pressure to the wheel instruction and hands free being turned off?

@Tesla Because he’s blocking the cabin camera and tricking the system (I think)

Yeah I’ve tried it. Would not recommend 😂. Kinda get some motion sickness if the screen isn’t right in front of you, then it lags anytime you go under a bridge. If he can quickly take over and still see the road I don’t see the big deal. Not sure he needs to be banned. With current attention monitoring you can do this without tricking the camera.

@Tesla I think FSD should double down and takeover permanently and not allow him to intervene. Same w drunk drivers.

.Naval: There was a story that I read about Elon Musk that really affected me, which was when he was talking to Bill Gates, and Bill Gates had just taken out some huge short on Tesla. It was like a billion dollar short or something. And, Elon was like, “Why would you do that? Why would you short Tesla?” And Bill goes, “Well, you know, I talked to my financial advisors and I looked at the math and there’s no way it’s overvalued. And so I’m going to make money on the short.” And Elon goes, “What do you care about making money? I thought you were into electric cars and climate change and saving the world. What are you doing trying to save a few bucks and betting against Tesla?”. And he just walked away in disgust. And I think he never talked to Bill Gates after that. And that’s when I realized, like, Elon’s a purist. He means what he says. The money is a tool for him to get what he’s trying to do. And so I take him at face value, which is the crazy thing, because a lot of people who set these audacious goals to inspire people, you kind of know they don’t really mean it. Elon, I take at face value. So I really do think he intends to get to Mars. I don’t think he’s joking about that. And I think he means to get there within a defined window of time. And I don’t think it’s just like an inspirational, faraway goal. I think he’s very, very concretely going to do whatever it takes. Because Elon doesn’t want to go down in history as the electric car guy or even the guy who saved America guy. He wants to go down as a guy who got humanity to the stars. Again, I’ll give him more credit than that. I don’t even think he wants to go down as the “I got humanity to the stars” guy. He’s just like, “I want to get to the stars, and so I have to make it happen in this lifetime. The only way that I get to experience the science fiction world in my head is if I get to the stars.” And so that’s so inspirational. I think that drives everything. So I think the government was just a thing that got in his way.
